In a state of acute Pork-i-docis
The concepts of taking the fight with extreme prejudice to those who have attacked you and going home safe are NOT inconsistent. I personally think that making it clear that I will take it to you with everything I have is a safer tack than making it clear that if I will back off if the going gets rough enough.

If the cops back off everytime someone takes a shot at them; all that encourages is shooting at cops.

    JMHO.

Really? We are REALLY making an issue of her catching the SOB that shot her? Yeah, she said, "Do what it takes to get home to her kids." I say the same thing...we all do. We still have a job to do. We say this phrase as a way to reinforce "officer safety" and common sense amongst ourselves. Like, "Don't get yourself into anything you can't get yourself out of." or I had a commander preach to us, "If they bring the fight to you, you take the fight out of them." However, if someone does bring the fight to you, it doesn't mean becoming a ***** and running away. We don't run from gunshots, take cover sure, but we don't let a very dangerous criminal who shot you get away just cause you are scared.

You are playing armchair quarterback. Not cool, imo. Her super wasn't there and she made the call to pursue. Given that she's a former marine, as well as a cop, I'm betting her thoughts about finishing her 'mission' as you put it, were still on the stop and she responded to the escalation, appropriately. You should know bloody well, no commander that isn't on site, overrides a subordinate, especially in a case like this.

    Troll much?

After you've been shot, the way of guaranteeing your going home is to stay where they're not. Following them results in, what was mentioned over the radio, more shots being fired. Put it this way, you're shot. They leave, the probability of you being shot is less likely than if you follow. You should worry more about the bleeding than more shots, unless they come back. On the alternative, you follow. You now have to worry about bleeding and being shot again.

This has nothing to with exercising rights, quit trolling.
He can't. It's in his DNA.
