      Building a Jungle Walk

Many years ago I belonged to a ML club that had a range and log cabin in a large woods in Wells county. Besides the 25, 50 and 100 yard ranges they also had a woodswalk that was comprised of 5 stations at various distances from 15 to 75 yards. They had good backstops at all the stations so that...

HELP! Need to find a rare screwdriver!

McMaster-Carr has tri-wing screwdrivers and normally next day delivery depending on your location. MSC has 1/4" drive tri-wing bits that will fit in your screwdriver. The Wera brand that they carry is made in Germany and is very good quality. MSC Item Detail

      My first reloads...

Reloading is a lot of fun, remember to pay close attention to the details and be consistent. A good scale and powder measure are a must. As you purchase more equipment remember that old adage buy once, cry once. You may have to pay a little more initially for quality equipment but you wont...

      .204 Ruger in the rain?

Yes, the light will affect how you perceive the target through a scope. As for the rain I have shot in the Midwest Regional VHA matches at the Wabash Conservation Club in all kinds of weather and at 400 yards in the rain there was only minimal difference in the poi but the ambient light was...

      Scope for .243

With a 243 your range potential is well beyond 200 yds. I would put a Leupold VXII 6-18 AO with the duplex or fine duplex reticle on it. For the mounts steel Weaver style bases and Burris Signature Zee rings.

      For those with Water Softeners:

We use the Morton pellets, yellow and green bag at a 1 to 1 ratio. I used to use the solar and found that the brine tank needed to be cleaned about once a year. The deer liked it when I put the dregs on an old stump back in the woods but I didn't relish the chore.

Looking to get a CT laser anybody have a any thoughts?

I have a CT grip on my S&W 442 and one of there vertical forgrips w/laser and light on my AR carbine, both are quality accessories that I would recomend to anyone. They both were easy to sight in and have held there zeros. With some prudent internet shopping they both can be bought for much less...

      Personal ranges

I have a 100 yard range in the woods behind our house with a sturdy steel and concrete permanent bench. If I want to shoot at a lesser distance I use the portable bench that I made for shooting prairie dogs. Having shot for years at a ML club and seen the annual maintenance that was required to...

Question: Paying for a deer you didn't shoot

The butcher here in Hamilton will only hold processed venison for a set number of days and if unclaimed donates the meat to Hunters feeding the Hungery. I get my deer cut and wrapped (vacuum packed) at a butcher shop in Grabill that only charges $55 - $65 and then make my own sumer sausage. If...

      Opinions about extra mags

I have 6 mags for my Glock 21 and and 10, 30rd mags for each of my AR's plus a couple of 10rd mags for range work. Not only due you want to rotate the mags but the ammo as well on a regular basis. I was recently told that to limit your liability in case you have to shoot someone to only use...

      Black Powder firearms discussion

I for one would welcome it. Having shot ML since buying my first one at 14 with garden produce sales and mowing yards, a TC Hawken and then in '81 a custom flintlock that I have shot many deer with and competed with for years. Because of aging eyes I currently use a scoped Savage MLII that I...

      Scope school

I have a Bushnell 3-9 3200 Elite on my muzzleloader that is mounted with Burris Signature Zee rings that I have been very happy with. The Rainguard lens coating and Firefly crosshairs are a definite plus in an inclement weather and low light hunting scope. If you shop around it should be...

Most of the time I have a Savage Model 12 LPV behind the seat and either a S&W 442 or Glock 21 between the seats.

      need help on rifle build?

Savage, having both a Remington 700 and Savage the out of the box accuracy of the Model 12's are very good. I bedded the actions on my Savages one a LPV and the other a LRP both in 223 and they are my go to guns for groundhogs and factory class in competition out to 400 yards. Fred Moreo at...

Recommend me a red dot for my AR

The Bushnell Holosight would be a good alternative if you can find one. I had one mounted on my Bushmaster carbine until I upgraded to an Eotech 512 with GGG covers and quick release mount.

      .410 shotgun question

I have mounted scopes on 2 H&R 410 single shots and sighted them in for some friends children. I was very impressed with how well both of them shot with very manageable recoil. Both fathers limited their young hunters to 70 yards and both of them have taken a doe with there shotguns.
