Glad it turned out well for you. I've not had to use their customer service yet, but if I ever do I hope to receive the great service I keep hearing about.
I have the option of carrying an M&P or a 1911 and I find myself carrying the M&P more often. Several reasons, capacity, weight, cost (I get less upset about wear on my less expensive M&P vs my 1911), etc, but ultimately I'm more comfortable shooting/carrying my M&P.
I've carried a couple of different MPs the past three years and I've not had any issues with rust. I do tend to clean my guns quite a bit (gives me garage time) and I use exclusively Eezox for cleaning/lubricating. YMMV
I've owned and shot the Ruger and I liked it alot. I've not shot the FN, but I just looked it up and it appears to be a pretty decent piece. Tough call.
I have a Springfield lighweight and a Sig Scorpion. Paid in the neighborhood for $850 for both. Very happy with both. The Sig is a little heavy but I don't carry it. I had a Springer loaded parkerized and on a whim sold it. Realized my mistake that led me to the lightweight Springfield.
