A whole lot of things here to unpack. To me, the most puzzling is the fact that there was apparently no security at all on, from what I can tell, was the most obvious spot from which someone would try a shot. I am not super into conspiracy theories, although it seems a lot are proved, it seems it is either that or a massive level of incompetency on the SS detail and service.

I was told in my official history class that Oswald did a head shot on a moving target with a milsurp rifle.
Of course, he was dispatched before he could be questioned.

Perhaps the agent suspected there was body armor at center mass.
I suspect, now I've never done it myself, but I have to believe that there might be a difference between casually shooting at the range and attempting to shoot a former President of the United States in front of thousands of people after managing to avoid detection and crawl up onto a roof.

In addition. We have thousands of morons every year go to Walmart, buy a shotgun or rifle and scope, slap it on there and expect to hit something with it on their first shot. While we've had a few over the years, there aren't a lot of leftists within the firearms community and I'm sure we're all familiar with the pics of Antifa idiots with scopes and VFGs on backwards. There are plenty of viable reasons why someone stupid enough to try this would also be incompetent enough to not hit anything.

I saw an interview of a woman who said trump was talking about some charts on immigration and had turned to talk about a chart to his right just before getting shot. She said if he had not turned his head it could have been very different.
The target can move as you fire and then you miss. That may have been the case here.
