    Ok. I'm an idiot.
Walking out the door this morning, I hit the "open hatch" on SUV in the garage. The INSTANT I hit that button I KNEW I hadn't pulled the vehicle all the way forward and I had most likely created a serious problem.

Yep. hatch is against door. Door won't go up. Hatch won't go down. Three inches of space at the bottom of garage door. I'm bigger than 3 inches.

    No other access to garage

I'm going to have to break a window.
Jimminy Crickets!! How difficult could that be????

    Damn difficult it turns out

We replaced 2 HUGE picture windows at our home a couple of years ago.

Figured I'd throw a sledgehammer and they will break easy easy.

First toss bounced right off and hammer landed at my feet.

Took 4 or 5 attempts to get the first window to break.

And then you have my son, who was sitting on the couch and had a fly buzzing in the window behind his head. He reached around and smacked it and shattered the window. That was about $300 to replace.

Time to institute the ol "always back into the garage" rule to prevent this from happening again. Plus its just the right thing to do. Pulling forward into a garage feels wrong, even when you are only doing it to work on the car.

My 4th birthday I decided to walk right through a verrrry clean sliding door.

The nice old glass that broke into mega huge daggers. Still have the reminder on my knee.

I'm surprised the hatch didn't close automatically. Most do if they encounter an obstacle.
That would have worked. Or just not hitting the damn button. I KNEW i was right up against it. Remember thinking, don't hit the button if that door is down>>

    Maybe next car...

Walked out of the house through the garage yesterday. The instant the door closed, oh crap, don’t have my keys. Checked to see if I locked the door, of course I did. Dang. Maybe the back door is unlocked. Nope. Oh yah, put that spare key in a hiding spot about 10 years ago. Sure hope it’s still there and that was after we rekeyed the doors. Get the key and hooray, it works. Grab my keys and return the spare back to the hiding spot. Haven’t told the better half yet!

Should have used a smaller hammer.

Way back in the mid 80s I was walking home from school with my brother and a neighbor kid. I'd had a rough day and my brother was making it worse and I was pi$$ed already. Parents had been having some work done and I found a framing hammer on the porch. I chucked that hammer with the intention of it hitting the fence by the driveway. Well I missed badly and threw it right through the picture window. Man that day just kept getting worse

You likely already solved the problem but I would have tried activating the garage door while pushing it down. One of our lift springs broke and I was still able to get the door to open so long as I helped it up.

Wife had a similar situation where the rear hatch got wedged into the garage door but we were in the garage with it. I was able to simply drive the car forward an inch to unbind the two.

I've never seen a garage without another entrance. If the garage spring ever breaks or the garage door opener breaks, you'll be in a similar situation. Glad to hear the window worked!
