I was going to go on a rant about how annoying it is when the forum stops notifying on random threads out of the blue, but then I read the pages I missed and was actually glad...

If we’re talking about treatments, after my son tested positive for covid, the ER doc basically told him to go home and come back if he turns blue. The way they worded it was if he feels like he can’t breathe, but my way sounds more dun dun dun, dramatic.

Anyway it doesn’t sound to me like they were very interested in becoming involved until it’s too late anyway. No advice on anything. Just go home. He’s in his early 20s, in good health. Fit enough. So Maybe they figured he’d be fine.

Very similar to my experience. Went to the Community South ER and could barely stand on my own. Was treated very politely and all but one of the people who treated me were fantastic, except, they didn't do anything. They made me comfortable, took at X-ray and EKG and monitored my vitals. Even though my home O2 monitor said I was at 86, the hospital said I was at 92 while I was there and they don't admit until a patient is under 90. Wouldn't give me fluids, but sent me home with some muscinex and a prescription for anti-nausea meds, both of which I'd been taking that didn't work. Told me to come back if I was under 90 for O2 and/or having major difficulties breathing. After another day of not getting better and not being able to get out of bed, I called my doc and got a stronger anti-nausea prescription, steroids, a Z-pak and an inhalable steroid. A day later I was able to get out of bed. I had asked the ER for steroids and a Z-pak and was told that wouldn't help. Hospital admins have banned anything that's effective it seems.

That was why I’d started the Covid treatment thread. We both got it and we’re basically “you can get the mcab and then hope you’re better”. That was it. Go home and hope you don’t die was the prevailing attitude. Why the actual ****?

Exactly. First tele-visit with a doctor was "treat it like the flu and stay hydrated". Right after that I couldn't get out of bed, could barely hold down water and couldn't eat. Was so nauseous I couldn't do anything. Had a fever and migraine style headache for almost 10 straight days that I couldn't get rid of. Finally got a different doctor to prescribe me the above and only then did I start to improve.

Gotta find the right doc. I did not call my PCP after the wife tested positive and I started to have symptoms.

Telehealth visit one got me a Zpack, HCQ and Ivermectin scripts (I already had scripts of the last two on hand - got them as prophylaxis).

Telehealth visit two (with my o2 below 90) got me two scripts for pneumonia which thankfully gave me a rapid turn around.

Like you, I couldn't stand and needed assistance walking to the bathroom. A very rough few days.

I made the mistake of using my normal doc. First doc was covering for him. Second, after 2 weeks of feeling like I was dying, was his PA. She told me she'd prescribe anything I wanted (though I knew HCQ and Ivermectin were verboten at IUH). Glad to see your doc was on top of things.

What talking about the utter failure of our complete healthcare system for actually treating patients make you uncomfortable?
No lol. I've seen the people on the front lines busting their asses and giving all of themselves to try and save people, so no, I'm not uncomfortable in the slightest.

In my last five shifts i think i have seen maybe four COVID patients.
Your experience is in line with the statewide trends:

So they were just doing their job…
I gave up talking with you about COVID. We will not ever see eye to eye on this and we just go around in circles. We feel very differently and we always will, so I don't see a purpose in discussing. You know how I feel and I know how you feel. I think you're a smart dude and I respect your thoughts on things, but neither one of us gains anything by talking about this topic.

I really was not expecting you to answer, but it raised a topic I would like to flesh out a bit. Right, we agree on bourbon! Wheated or rye? I’m a wheated guy myself…
