    Where's the bacon?
OK, so several months ago, it was decided at high levels of government that lots of M1 Garand rifles would not be allowed to be imported back into the US from South Korea. :n00b: If I recall, Hillary Clinton raised the question that these "semi-automatic rifles" :nailbite: might be used by criminal gangs. :runaway: :faint:

Yes, certainly, gang members might choose to use a rifle that ways about 8-10 pounds and has a maximum capacity of eight shots rather than a stolen pistol that weighs a pound and has a capacity of between 12 and 19... but it's not very likely.

The good news is that the administration has reconsidered. NRA-ILA :: U.S. allows import of 86,000 M1 rifles from Korea
It's certainly political posturing, hoping that people are stupid enough to think, "Oh, well, they let me get th' rifle I wanted, so I'm gonna vote for 'em!"

That's fine and dandy. I'll take advantage of the lower prices and get mine ASAP. Sadly, the Clinton State Department would not allow the import of M1 Carbines, as they take a detachable magazine and that might be dangerous.

    Blessings,
    Bill

Wow, "my politician doesn't do what I like so I make them aware of my beliefs. When my politician then does what I like, I still don't appreciate it because its just posturing".

Sometimes, politicians get a slanted view from lobbyists then correct mistakes. Sounds like they would get more votes by just sticking with the original mistake. At least that way, they would get votes from one side.

I'm thinking they will go through an importer since the Korean's are selling them back to us. The only way CMP gets rifles to sell is when the Army gives them to the CMP.
These will be cheaper than a CMP rifle (maybe) but I bet they are in a whole lot worse shape

I suspect you are absolutely correct about them being in worse shape, but I'll certainly wouldn't mind getting one if the price is right.

There is NO other side. Anti-gun is a cause without followers. They only hope to **** off the pro-gun people less by giving half a loaf.

I'm not sure they'll be in horrible shape. If you think about it, we just left them a bunch of Garands. Most of them may actually still be in GI cosmoline since we've been there since the fifties they've not had to dip into the surplus Garand supply :twocents:

I know I'll be getting one regardless of condition. Nothing like an en bloc clip pinging to give you goosebumps.

don't count them being in horrible condition. I found several blue sky imports that were great, back when they first imported them from Korea. Sure, there were lots of turds, but there were some jewels also.

“We plan to announce a bid later this month or in February for the selection of agencies to sell the M1 rifles to Americans,” Kim said. “The U.S. has been reviewing legal procedures for the approval of a third party transfer.”
Sounds like private company sales, not cmp

I am betting $600 range for the "vanilla" Garands. The price will be more for the more rare manufacturers. Now if they have more Korean .30-06 ammo as well, I'd be happy...it's getting harder to feed these beasts.

    Right here.
What about the 770,000 M1 Carbines that originally was included in the transfer from Korea? And check this link out for more info.

[Exclusive] US allows import of 86,000 M1 rifles from Korea <img src=http://110.45.173.104/www/news/images/ic_korean.gif>

At least this looks like a step in the right direction, but the deal could still turn sour.

I'd love to see the 770,000 M1 carbines brought home. That would likely drive the price down on the carbines to 'affordable' levels. I wonder how many M2's would be in that batch?
