Usps is legal but they will refuse if they know it's a gun. Package well, answer correctly that it is not liquid, fragile or hazardous and get insurance. Remember no lithium batteries either.

Does this work for AR lowers? I've not had a chance to go to the LGS yet and want a new project. Could anyone in the state ship one to me or do I still need to go the LGS first?

I'm guessing that if it is person-to-person sale, you'd be ok. (a.k.a. not from a shop)

Just be aware your experience depends on the knowledge of the employee you encounter. I had a lady in Danville tell me I had to "take off and disassemble the barrel" if I mailed a gun. Her rational was you can't make a gun 100% safe because her brother knows guns and still accidentally shot a gun in her house.
