Granted, teachers make mistakes (that one is a doozy), but if I had made one that serious, I sure would not have sent home a note telling a parent about it.

I've made mistakes in the classroom and used them as learning experiences. Teacher could have used this to teach students 1) that even teachers are human and make mistakes and 2) there is a right and a wrong way to challenge a teacher or authority in general.
