I have been asked multiple times while OCing if I am a cop. I simply reply "no". A few people have asked why I have a gun at this point. What do you guys reply to these types of questions?

Would it be appropriate to respond "I'm not on duty"?

Heck, I am not a cop so I am never on duty. Not a stolen valor type comment, more a half truth that avoids awkward debates with uneducated people.

That would seem to be implying that you "are" an officer. There is a law against that.

    IC 35-44.1-2-6
    Impersonation of a public servant
Sec. 6. A person who falsely represents that the person is a public
servant, with intent to mislead and induce another person to submit
to false official authority or otherwise to act to the other person's
detriment in reliance on the false representation, commits
impersonation of a public servant, a Class A misdemeanor. However,
a person who falsely represents that the person is:
    (1) a law enforcement officer; or
    (2) an agent or employee of the department of state revenue, and
    collects any property from another person;
    commits a Level 6 felony.
As added by P.L.126-2012, SEC.54. Amended by P.L.158-2013,
    SEC.505.

It may not be prosecuteable if you don't take advantage of them.

avoids awkward debates with uneducated people.

    I never debate I educate.
It is all about educating the ignorant.

I like the "Have you seen the news?" response. I'll have to give that one a go. I'm the same as the rest of you guy; I CC when I have a coat/sweatshirt on, OC when I don't.

This is why I typically don't OC. I don't want the attention and I don't always have the time nor the energy to want to get into a gun debate when I'm running errands.

Because my pant fall down without my IWB holster.

It's true. I was tugging at my pants all week in NYC.
