Well hey...with all the terrorists they busted and attacks they've thwarted, I wouldn't go dissing on them too much.

This is what comes of letting burger flippers run your airport security. They shouldn't have ever had anything like a master key, now the entire world has access to them, (including INGOer's who have access to a 3D printer, now). Stick to carry on baggage if you value your possessions.

the only surprise to me is the fact that it took this long, but for the record, the article said it was taken from a photo the post published.

The TSA master key skullduggery started back in 2014, when The Washington Postaccidentally” leaked images of a full set. From those photos, Github user Xyl2k reproduced the design of each key in the form of an STL (STereoLithography) file and uploaded them for all to enjoy. Security researcher Bernard Bolduc printed one right away and showed in a video that it really works.

They usually leave a note saying they went through your bags. If there's no note, then they've probably stolen something.

Yeah but if they have a TSA key and steale something you just notice when you get home, versus at the airport if they have to cut the lock.

One of the first things you learn in lockpicking school is that padlocks are a joke and offer almost no "protection". Most padlocks can be picked open and relocked in seconds. Use whatever padlocks you have and don't worry about it because it really doesn't matter.

If you have valuables and are concerned then you could take the route of putting them in a hard shelled case like a gun case and put a box of .22lr ammo with your valuables. Declare your ammo and secure the case to the inside of your suitcase. You keep the key and anyone who shouldn't be in there only gets to look through your tighty-whities. Throw some stinky ones in there for good measure.
