How much do those grips run? While I personally don't like the color that much (not as much as the cocobolo ones!), Im going to get a 75B but found the grip to be maybe a bit too wide. Thanks for the info!

They've got quite a few different color options. I've got VZs on both of my Shadows. Love 'em! (and I've tried all the various grips available)

Thanks, I like the texture but the VZ's are super thin and I have rather large hands. I will use them this week and see how I like them once I put a few hundred rounds through the gun again.

The grips on my shadow are also VZ, they are just basic black. I agree they are thin, but they are pretty grippy for non rubber grips.

If you want extreme grip, the VZ diamondbacks are unbeatable. I use the regular VZs for my carry gun, because the diamondbacks would grind off my lovehandle in short order. :):

Thanks for the link to Robertsons Trading Post. They currently have 20 CZ75's for sale. They don't mention anything about pre B models. The date of mfgr on all their current guns is 1986 and 1992. Can anyone confirm if they are the pre B models, what the pre B stands for, and if one year is better between the 86 and 92 model years?

Yes, those would be pre-B CZs. The later ones are getting close to the transitional ones that have some features of the later guns, but without the firing pin block. The 92s (may be a bit earlier too) can generally use the current style magazines but the early ones may need to have the mag wells opened to use B style magazines.

This is one of my Robertson's pre-B CZ 75s as bought. This one is an 1988 and felt really rough when purchased.

This is the same gun after some freshening. I absolutely love this pistol now. It makes me look like a much better shooter than I am. A couple of weeks back, I was at MCFG with my nephew, who was home on leave, and impressed the heck out of him by calling shots on pieces of clay pigeon and then making them disappear with a flash sight picture and shot. I'm not that good a shot, but the gun makes me look like it. The gun was stripped and Duracoated with Magpul Flat Dark Earth color, the magwell was opened for later style mags, the trigger replaced with a single action trigger, all springs were replaced and a set of VZ grips installed. While in there, the fire control group got a bit of polishing as well.

Very nice job on that old CZ! Did you do the work yourself? How do you like that new trigger? I have a couple Pre Bs and they shoot great. The mag issue can be a problem for some but I have enough mags to last. Hopefully I can run across and old Pre B like yours to refurbish. I'd like to do an olive frame and black slide. I did that to a Bob Tailed Commander and it looks wayyyy cool, IMO. ;)

Thanks, I did all of the work myself. Last fall, I bought three pre-Bs from Robertson's. Originally, I got two to use as Christmas gifts for my sons, with the idea of restoring them first. One was a 92 and the other the 88 shown above. The 88 was in so much worse shape than the 92, I was thinking it might be a parts gun and ordered another 92. I put the 88 away until the work was done on the pair of 92s and then started to sort it out. My original assessment was off on the 88 and while it looked bad and felt like it had been lubed with sand and water, once stripped and cleaned, it was just as nice as the 92s.

I love the trigger. The only thing I'd do differently is to get an SA trigger with both pre and over travel adjustments. This one has just over travel. I'll probably order one and move this trigger to my youngest son's gun. Eventually, I plan to have dovetails cut for night sights, but until then it will still get carried during the day.

Here's a photo of the three after they were all done. I've since refinished the 88 a second time since I did not like the look of it originally.

Again, very nice work on it. My Pre Bs were bought before the CZs were allowed to be imported in the US so they were very expensive. One has the standard polymer type finish and the other has the "Safari" finish that is like a matte parkerizing. I'm going to keep my eyes open for a beater like yours and try my hand at the refinish process. Oh, to bad I missed out on the 97B, I heard they are nice weapons as well.

It's going to be tough letting the 97B go, but college tuition is a calling this summer.

I've wanted one for a while. Not that easy to find and I have rarely seen one used. But ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Which finish did you use on the CZ? My friend has used KG Coat on a couple of my Commanders and it works pretty well.

I've had good luck with Duracoat. I sprayed the barrel the frame color on the 88 and after hundreds of rounds, it's only now starting to wear on the lugs. Once baked, it's pretty durable.
