I'm a lefty and had the same problem. That is until I discovered Kydex holster kits and began making my own. I can make a kydex holster for a handgun with a light attached for about $30 and about 5-6 hours of work. Best holsters I've ever used since they are made perfectly to MY specifications.
It took me over 6 months to sell 2 NEW 1911 lefty holsters! I write and eat left handed, throw and shoot right handed and can do most anything else with either hand. When I was little you were a spawn of the Devil if you were left handed!!!
Just not many of of lefties out here needing left handed holsters. I think a lot of us were taught to shoot right handed.
I am left handed, write, eat, and bat only. Play basketball, golf (the two or three times I played back in the 80's) and shoot guns all right handed. My right eye is dominant so it helps when shooting right hand and batting left handed.
I would guess I am probably 75% ambidextrious. I have dislocated my left shoulder four times so I have had to use my right hand more than a regular lefty.
I am left handed and ordered a holster from Claments from Navada. I had a hard time finding a holster for my sig p250 subcompact and even a tougher time in left handed mode. The holster I ordered fit the bill and is very comfortable. If I remember, holster was a bit less than $60 and is leather.
Actually, we're about 11% of the population. And you're right, they can be found, but almost never in an actual store. Online sources work best for me, I like the selection.
If you still need or want LH holsters for a short 1911, PM me, I might be able to help you out.
