88 or 89 for me and like you had to write 3 reasons why you thought you needed a license. Thought it was a bunch of rubbish.

Late sixties. I remember I had to write a letter to ISP and tell them why I thought I needed to carry a handgun.

    1989 0r 1990 for me.
Had to write 3 reasons why you needed a LTCH on the back of the App. if I remember correctly.

Do you guys remember what the reasons you gave? (Just curious as to what they considered to be "good enough" reason).

Got out of the service in 1969 and started working part time in a small gun shop up in LaOtto. Got my LTCH back then. Had to write a letter stating why I wanted one, but the local Chief of Police in Churubusco knew me and there wasn't any problem. I've kept mine ever since.

I believe I've had one since 72 or 73 when I had an FFL out of my home.

    .
Got my first one in July of 1978. One month after my 18th birthday. It was a carry permit not a hunting one.

85' when I moved back to Indiana. I've been carrying since '75.

[I thought I was old until I started reading these posts. Some of you ARE old farts.] I was actually surprised at the number of older members. [That's a good thing!]

    As per the C.O.P.-
#1 was for the protection of myself and family
#2 (I believe) was carrying large amounts of money
#3 (I believe) was either traveling or traveling at night For work
#1 I know for sure, but the other two I can't remember for sure.

I would guess 85 or so. I remember the thumbprint on the license. I also remember having to explain why i needed one. I always put that my job kept me out after dark, sometimes in bad areas, and carried large sums of money. Then I always added, to exercise my second amendment right to keep and bear arms.
