LOL.....gong ! If your really worried about the ability of a .308 with a 20" barrel to hit at 500 yards go over to snipershide.com, read some of the reviews of people shooting this setup at 800 yards.

I do not know where you are located but I saw Gander Mountain in Castleton on the North side of Indy take in a nice 700 in .308. I think it had a fluted, free floating barrel. I know they are selling a .223 exactly like it for 1050 and the guy behind the counter told me they were selling the .308 for 630. The guy who sold it said that he had shot it twice. So if you're in that neighborhood might be worth a look.

Found a local shop with a sps tactical in 308 finally, but they want $699 for it. Is this price high? Looking on the Internet I've seen prices from $530-$650. Was looking to get one soon, but looking for the best deal

That may be a bit high, but remember online you have shipping, transfer costs, and wait time. If you walk into the store you can walk right out with it and to the range. IMO that is sometimes worth the little extra money.

I have a 22-250 heavy barrel with lamenated stock for sale, chambered in the 700 series remington. Has a cheap scope but any offer would be considered.

I dont know if that was a classified type post, but there is a place for those, and a minimum post count. Please check the INGO rules and FAQ.

do they still make the SPS tactical? I cant find it on the Remington website.

You have to look at their premier dealer firearm listings (not in regular rifle listings). I can't remember exactly how to get their on their website, but I do know that it is confusing. I will try to add a link later since Remington's website is blocked at work.

If you are looking to go out to 400 yards then 308 is the way to go. I was at Dick's in Greenwood about a week ago and they had an ADL in 308. I believe that the SPS series has replaced the ADL though.

I got a Remington LTR in 308 this year. It is a 20" fluted barrel. The most accurate out of the box rifle I have ever owned bar none...and I have owed a lot of different ones. It is a honest 3/4 moa rifle with FGMM 168's. With Federal 175 MK's,IMR 4064 and LC match brass it is shooting 1/2" and better with boring regularity. A 1/12" twist .30 that loves 175's. Who would have ever though?

As for the barrel length, the new in thing is shorter is better. You gain more benefits with accuracy, portability and weight saving ect. that IMO far exceeds the small loss of velocity.

Looks like Buds has them new for $510. Its all up to you, if you want a 7MM. I'd rather have the .308. Just in case SHTF police and military use that round.
