    HK is my personal favorite, but a little spendy.

    Glock is always the safest choice in terms of low risk. If you don't like it, it sells in minutes. If you do, it's easy to live with.

    I'm not a fan of the 1911, but that doesn't make the gun bad, just old.

    I carry a Ruger P90, and I love it. That's just me though. Go to a range that will let you rent and fire a few. What you feel comfortable with is what I would recommend. Just my 2c.
