I can't help but wonder what that grip feels like.

Desert eagles I've found to be strangely comfortable, but that looks way more square.

I would say that if it is for personal protection, get the one that you will shoot the best in a stressful situation. But you really need to have both. So I guess it comes down to which one to get first. Probably a shotgun.

    Yea!
    It has been decided:

1911 COLT, yes COLT Series 80 enhanced from the early 90's.

I have a line on it and its mine if I want it and I do.

In the words of Wayne from Wayne's World,

" It will be mine, oh yes it will be mine!"

I just have to wait untill July and its done.
I didnt think Id be able to swing a Colt but Im glad this
    worked out.

My first handgun was a Series 80 Colt from the 90's (purchased nearly new in 1994 as my 21st B-day gift to myself). Trying to separate me from it at this point would be extremely hazardous to one's health.

If you're going to also shoot it a lot at the range I'd get into reloading and go .357 with a Ruger gp100 or sp101. For reloading you don't have to pick up brass, either. As already mentioned, it's more affordable to reload .357 than .45ACP.

For a nightstand gun that might also be carried concealed for defense, the 1911 is great.

Or just pick the one that you think you will shoot the best.

If you're going on the cheaper end, go for a revover. 1911's are jam-o-matics on the cheap end of the spectrum and need to be broken in well in all cases. The wife(assuming) would be more comftorable with a revolver most likely due to the simpler manual of arms. Plus 357 is in your username.

A SN nightstand gun is NOT something to "tinker with".

RIA 1911's are notoriously reliable. From day one my has eaten everything I put though it. Buy a RIA 1911 without fear of jamming.

I've had a Taurus .357 for years and have always been happy with it. It's been from one side of the country to the other with me and has never once let me down. Don't own a 1911, so I can't speak to them. I do, however own a Taurus Mil Pro .45 and carry it often. Nothing bad to say about their lines or products. Great price points, good quality and a lifetime warranty if something does need fixing.
