I was into my daily routine , having a smoke , watching the news and waiting for my friend to get here so we could head off to work . Little did I know it would be a Tuesday I'll never forget .

I heard a plane had hit a building in NY and thought , "man that's weird , that hasn't happened in years " . Then , just as we were about to leave we heard a second plane hit .

I knew in my gut that it wasn't a coincidence . We worked the rest of the day laying tile as usual . When I got home I took the rest of the week off .

I found out a friend from church was working with the Red Cross gathering supplies to drive up to NY . I spent the week making calls , pleading our cause and begging every company I could think of to donate whatever they could to help out .

Many were glad to donate and by Friday we had enough stuff to completely pack his minivan . Our church took an offering for gas and hotel fair and Friday night we were off to NY .

On Saturday , 9.15.01 we arrived in NY about 4:30 P.M. and stopped on the GW bridge to talk to the port authority police about why we were there . There was a huge American flag draped from the top of the bridge .

We got there just in time to join the tail end of a six vehicle convoy made up of folks just like us . We all were escorted straight to the Javits convention center to unload the supplies .

When we got there we found out it was full already so we were re-routed to a warehouse by Chelsea piers that the FBI had commandeered to use as a command post .

One truck after another was unloaded , all of us in a human chain , one hand to another . People from all over the country , helping as best they could .

A man from New Jersey was beside me and asked why my friend and I would drive all the way from Indiana .

I told him , " this thing happened in your back yard but it was American blood that was shed and when we see our country take a hit like that , we all have to do more than watch it on the news ".

We all , worked through the night unloading trucks all the while the whole block was surrounded by SWAT looking guys complete with roof top snipers and choppers buzzing around .

Sometime Sunday morning we were finished and took a walk around just to try to take it all in . Still unable to make sense of it we headed for home .

I was walking to work, and I had a pager that was subscribed to a news alert service, and it started going nuts right around 8am. I didn't really understand what the messages said until I got to work, and everyone was freaking out. They ended up closing the mall that day, and when I got home I flipped on the news and there it was....I spent a lot of time comforting my girlfriend that day, because her dad flew to Baltimore that morning, and she didn't know he was safe until later in the day.

The details are kinda hazy, as things were kinda panicky, but I'll never forget that day.

On 9/11/2001, I was about to leave the office/shop to deliver some material to one of the crews and the secretary mentioned something about a fire at the WTC. She said it was probably another kitchen fire. I headed out and made a stop at the local bait shop. The TV was on and the owner and I stood there watching in shock for hours. People came and went but not many stayed more than a few minutes watching the TV. The Coke/Pepsi guy made a delivery that morning and I told him that two planes had flown into the two WTC towers. He said “ya… that’ll teach um.” :n00b:
Around noon I made my delivery and went home. When I got to the back door I found it had been forced open and two of my handguns were gone. I called the sheriffs department and the deputy that responded said off duty officers had been called in just in case something happened around here. He had been assigned to watch the high school.

Some time later, (A few weeks or months. I don’t know how long it had been since 9/11.) I was working on a building in Royal Center and I noticed that there were a lot of jets flying over. It was overcast so I couldn’t see them but they were flying from west to east and one or two every ten to fifteen minutes. I remember thinking “somebody’s going to get it…. I wonder how many will die before this is over?”

It’s eight years later and we still don’t know the answer to that question.

I didn't get to say something in this yesterday. Where I was didn't happen to be any big deal. I was at work at my job at the time, Wyant Ford as a technician. I was back in the shop and heard something about it over the radio. Me and another tech ran into the break room to turn on the tv and see if we could find a channel with any info. We finally found one and we couldn't believe our eyes. Just in shock, sadness, and anger all at the same time. I knew at this point we were gonna be going to war and things weren't gonna ever be the same again. When flight 93 went down, I prayed for the lost lives, knowing no one would of survived. But was thankful that there were some brave souls on there that stood up to the attackers and stopped the plane from hitting its intended target. Before I could even work on my next car, I stopped and prayed for all that were involved, and for the protection for the emergency workers on the scenes. To this day I've never forgotten this moment, and I'm sure I never will. I may be forgiven by God for my sins. But I doubt I'll ever be able to forgive the atrocities that happened that day.:patriot:

I was on my way home from work, my now ex-wife called my cell screaming that we are under attack. I am very shocked that many people dont remember 9/11, I was living in florida at the time of the attacks. I now live back in Indiana and when I asked people on 9/10 what tomorrow is they are like UHHHH Friday! I even got the same responce on 9/11 I for one will never forget

I was in 6th grade on the playground when I heard about it. Dad picked me up from school and we went home and watched it all day. Later that week a friend and I held a candlelight vigil outside his home. We were young, but we still were able to understand what happened, to an extent. It wasn't until several years after that I truely realized what happened that day and how everything has changed. I can divide my life into two parts, pre 9/11 and post 9/11. I still can barely look at pictures from that day without getting emotional. I know I'll never be able to look at pictures from that day without getting emotional.

No great story here. Iwas in a customers home and he had the TV on when it was interupted with the news. He said it was a airplane accident, but I knew otherwise. A few minutes later, I was sadly proven correct. Spent the rest of the day working with an attitude of " Those ba$@#& are NOT going to win. And if I change my routine, they win!" Ended my day at church with a whole lot of new friends.

To this day, I still can't watch Alan Jackson's song or Toby Keith or "Have You Forgotten" without crying. What really hurts is the lack of memory by the younger generation. All this fuss over Micheal Jackson and so little for our armed service folks. Makes me want to scream!

God may forgive those that caused and executed this terrible event, but I NEVER will. I guess that's why He's God and I'm "just a singer of simple songs. Not a real political man. But if I had my choice and I had my way, I'd NUKE BOTH Iraq and Iran"!

God Bless America!!

I was at work. My lead man had internet access and allowed me to use it on occasion. I went in to the office to check CNN, I was bored, but I could not get a connection. I got up and went into the other room, by the time I walked back to the computer CNN had loaded and there was a picture of the first tower burning. My lead man I looked at each other and we just knew that this was far worse than it appeared. By the time the relief crew came in we heard about the Pentagon. I went home, watched the news and yelled obscenities at the television. I didn't even know who I was angry at back then.

As for the OP Alan Jackson has a couple that get to me. This one and Remember When.

I was already having a rather intense day of fixing someones mouth after he had slipped while working at his own business and knocked his front 4 teeth out. It was an almost all morning long procedure. I had heard something REALLY big was going on but had to inform my staff that unless an attack on Indiana was anticipated I had to be focused on the pt.
Being an avid hiker and camper I remember showing my (only at the time) oldest daughter the sky in the day and then again at night. I explaining to her that this will be the only time in her life she will be able to look at the sky/stars and see it as it was years ago without streams or lights from airplanes.
