Where were you on the day that forever changed US history?

I was laying in bed, crippled, and not expecting to walk again. I saw the news report on a tiny television set in my bedroom and couldn't believe what I was seeing. I think my selfish preoccupation with my own problems kept me from processing the events of that day on a more meaningful level.

8th Grade. I was in Integrated Math 3/4 at Blackhawk in Ft Wayne with all the other "gifted" kids (before you couldn't call kids gifted) and the teacher locked the door and started crying. Two girls broke down. Looking back I realize that I was upset about the attacks but the most upsetting thing was the look of fear on some of the other kids' faces. I'll remember 9/11 as the day we lost our sense of safety...not the day freedom was threatened. I don't believe that so long as any American is willing to fight that freedom will be threatened.
