It depends entirely on the twist of the rifle. I keyhole at 100 yards if I go much over 250 grains. :dunno:

I've found Magtec 250 Grain JSP rounds. Seem pretty accurate. I haven't had time to work up other loads.

I have a marlin 1894, and have had good luck with the leveroution 225 grain.. I have also tried some of my hand loads for my pistol, but the 115grain is much to light for the twist. I also the hot load heats the barrel to much, it is all over the paper.

Hornady 240gr XTP-HP over H110. Last deer that saw that load went to buck heaven to be with his family.

For a factory round, I have gotten really good results from WWB 240 grainers. Probably have laid down 8 or 10 does with that round, and performance was...well-you look at the picture and judge for yourself. Medium size doe, this is the off-side:

See above post. Nothing wrong with hand loads or special ammo but it is not needed for whitetail deer. Heck the hole going in is bigger than many rifle rounds expand to.

Winchester white box ammo is nothing fancy, generic white box available at MEGA_LOW_MART or rural King (preferred over MEGA_LOW_MART) around 30 a box of 50 and will work well in lever guns where many SWC will not reliably cycle.

I have tried lots of ammo gold dots, leverevolution stuff, corbon. Nice stuff but the WWB is what I hunt with as my shots are normally very close well within 100 yards.

    There you are.
I use PMC 180 or 240 grain hollow points, they are devestating and do not blow a big exit hole. Actually I have never had one exit. Very snall entry hole, but hearts and lungs devistated. Affordable as well. All shots within 30 yards.

My first loads I've pumped out of my Hornady LnL have been much more accurate than any of the cheap factory ammo(incl WWB) that I've tried.

This is in a Ruger Super Redhawk though.
