Greetings. New user here and this is a great site for information, thanks to all that post for us newbies to learn. Here's the deal. My uncle passed away and my aunt has a S&W 357, nickel plated, wood grips, model 586 that she wants me to have. I want to give her fair market value for it as I know her financial situation is not great. I went to a dealer in town and they offered $225 which I think is low. Can anyone give me a value on this rarely fired gun? I know that most people on these forums are not appraisers, but any help or insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

There are some listed on gunbroker right now ranging with bids from $350 to 850. Most are in the lower part of the range.

I have seen them in gun shops blued for around $350 to $450. Most gun shops want to make 30% mark up on used guns.

Neil, I think this is a great gun for you. S&W is a favourite of mine. I agree that you should probably give your Aunt about $500 for it. After all, she is family.

Yes, the fabled "L" frame. I have owned a 6" blue one since 1982. At the time it was the only .357 that could shoot with the "Colt Python." A very accurate and pleasent to shoot revolver.

My apologies that this post is not relative to the OP but.....I must say that I agree with goodcat. All of the other forums I have found, if you ask a question you get flamed something serious.
So being able to get helpful advice without all the whoo whoo is nice.
