I've noticed around here that most make copies of their LTCH and was wondering (aside from the obvious to have a backup) why make more than just two copies? I just got fingerprinted today L1 style and was just curious.

Because I have one in each range bag, in each car, at my folk's place (where I shoot), and anywhere else I tend to dwell.

More is better when they have to last you your entire lifetime.

I never thought of that. I just figured I'd have a copy on me at all times anyway, so why leave extra copies spread around?

Did the law change that required it to be on your person while carrying?

    Yep.

    The new code reads:
Sec. 1. (a) Except as provided in subsections (b) and (c) and section 2 of this chapter, a person shall not carry a handgun in any vehicle or on or about the person's body without being licensed under this chapter to carry a handgun.

    I can't remember the "old" code off-hand.

Since replacement copies are $20, I have the original in the safe, and use laminated copies everywhere else (wallet, wife's purse, range bag, etc...).

Here is the the new amended legislation as signed by Gov. Daniels (SEA 506) that shows the changes in the language.
(Showing the [STRIKE]stricken [/STRIKE]parts and the new language added in Bold)

    http://www.ciyoudixonlaw.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/506.pdf

SECTION 1. IC 35-47-2-1, AS AMENDED BY P.L.118-2007,
SECTION 35, IS AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE
    JULY 1, 2011]: Sec. 1. (a) Except as provided in [STRIKE]subsection[/STRIKE]
subsections (b) and (c) and section 2 of this chapter, a person shall not
carry a handgun in any vehicle or on or about the person's body [STRIKE]except
in the person's dwelling, on the person's property or fixed place of
business, [/STRIKE]without [STRIKE]a license issued[/STRIKE] being licensed under this chapter
    [STRIKE]being in the person's possession.[/STRIKE] to carry a handgun.

Here is the new law as it reads today with the added language in bold and without all the stricken edits. (Notice the part about "being in the person's possession" was stricken.)

Sec. 1. (a) Except as provided in subsections (b) and (c) and section 2 of this chapter, a person shall not carry a handgun in any vehicle or on or about the person's body without being licensed under this chapter to carry a handgun.

Right, it used to be you had to carry the original one issued to you and copies were not valid. That's what the guy at the kinkos said!!!

    I'm your huckleberry.

    Present:
IC 35-47-2-1(a) Except as provided in subsections (b) and (c) and section 2 of this chapter, a person shall not carry a handgun in any vehicle or on or about the person's body without being licensed under this chapter to carry a handgun.
    Previous: (courtesy P.L. 164-2011 (a.k.a. SB 506 of 2011))
IC 35-47-2-1(a) Except as provided in subsection (b) and section 2 of this chapter, a person shall not carry a handgun in any vehicle or on or about the person's body except in the person's dwelling, on the person's property or fixed place of business, without a license issued being in the person's possession.
They turned subsection (b) into (c) while removing the exemptions and then added a new subsection (b) with all of the same exemptions spelled out in more and more expansive detail.

    Ref. http://www.in.gov/legislative/pdf/acts_2011.pdf

Edit: ACK! I ninjaed myself by responding to the first page without first reading the second.
