What's the best method for surface rust?

any one ever tried naval jelly on this used it a lot in my teens to get rid of rust on old klunkers I drove dissolved rust pretty well

I used this about a year ago to remove surface rust from a Valmet mag, it removed the rust and the finish. I contacted Allen M to re-finish it, but I have never followed through.
I do need to get that done.
