I bought a Hungarian 9mm. Basically it was a knock-off of the Browning HP. I probably put 5000 rounds through it and never had a problem.

Oh man, me too back in 1981! It only took me about 2-3 months to make up my mind between single-action blackhawk or double-action security six. Glad I went for double-action now! What a great revolver design.
BTW I recently found reasonable rubber grips for ~$7 at CDDN... sure beats the ridiculous small wooden factory grips with magnum loads

Ruger Security-Six, 4 in. bbl in .357 magnum, got it a Em-Roes' Sporting Goods in the late 70's

I got my first handgun in 1984, a gift from my late mother. She got killed in an auto accident in 87. She was gracious enough to give me a S&W model 66-1 with a four inch barrel. I still have it, and the only way I'll ever get rid of it , is when my son has to pull it from my cold dead hands. There is no way on God's green earth he'll get it while I'm still kicking.:):
