    I am gearing up to buy a compact carry gun in a couple months but I do not want a glock. What do you carry or suggest? I am looking for a barrel length of 4 inches or less and at $500 or less.

    I love my Kimber Pro Carry (1st gen), but the $500 is a problem.

    I've been carrying my winter pocket gun. A Charter Arms .44 Special Bull Pug. I like it well enough and it's never given me any problems. The new offerings from CA look pretty nice, too.

    Today's carry gun is a custom Mag-na-Ported Detonics Combat Master:

    The silver medallion/inlayed dyed African Giraffe bone grips alone are over your budget. But you should be able to find a basic compact 1911 within your price range.

    S&W M&P9c or a S&W 642-2.

    Yes, I know that these days the term "pistol" doesn't really apply to revolvers. HOWEVER, before there were semi-autos, the term pistol was still used interchangeably with "handgun". So there. :D

    I routinely carry my XD45 Service model. It has a 4" barrel and holds 13+1. I have not had any issues with all the types of ammo I have tried. I have the bitone model which was $499, but the all black models run about $469 last time I checked. If I have light cover I opt for the Ruger SP101.

    I carry a Kimber Ultra Carry II in SS. But if I had to keep it under $500.00 I would look at compact 1911 pattern pistols from different manufacturers such as Charles Daly, Rock Island and High Standard.

    I usually carry a Bersa 9UC (13 rounds) but tonight I am carrying a Bersa 9HC (17 rounds). The UC has a 3.5 inch barrel and the HC is right around 4 inches. I also carry a Bersa 380 in my pocket for no other reason that I like the gun and it carries well in my pocket. The 9UC is a great carry weapon. Its solid and reliable and can be bought for around $350. I also carry a full size 1911 at times, so the safety on the Bersa 9s is very familiar.

    I wouldn't carry a glock unless they paid me, I have both standards and morals. And thus I trust myself to my Sigs;
    226 9mm
    226 .357
    225 9mm
    239 .40

    If you pick up a CPO for around $500 it will make Baby Jesus happy.

    I've been carrying my S&W CS45 a lot lately.

    If I don't carry my G19, I carry a S&W J-frame.

    I held a S&W M&P9 and the M&P9c tonight at the gun shop, and I must say if I didn't have Glocks, I'd look at them very hard.
