My bud and I both have Marlins - older models - I have a mounted scope 150yrds no problem. My bud shoots open sights not bad either. We both use Hornaday Level Action rounds.
    Good luck.

What scope do you use on your 44 and hows it during dusk to see thru?

I'm going to wait until after deer season before I start to "gear up" for next year.

So I'm open to suggestions of guns to consider, even used models.

    Your thoughts?

Rossi /Winchester 92s are lighter than the Marlins. Rossi's can be a little rough at first but there is plenty of info on how to smooth them up. I've done a few. They shoot pretty well. I also put a rear ghost ring sight on one and it definitely helps with groups.

If you want to go with a scope then your looking at either a Winchester 94 or a Marlin.
