Watching a show about snipers last night on (I think) History Channel. They present a situation that happened in Anchorage years ago where a perp had a hostage and 4 pounds of C4 taped to his left arm.
Long story short, perp takes two .308 and two .223 rounds to the upper/mid torso and STILL is able to set off his bomb, although the hostage escaped safely. Damn that made me think really hard about gun and round selection. So...I already have a 12ga and sometime soon a .50 Beo. Lead poisoning delivered by the full ounce seems the only way to go.

You could join us 458 SOCOMers too. Just as much punch as the beo.

You are aware of the Crack Monster of Brooklyn? Or that Carlos Hathcock shot a man seven (7) times with a .30 caliber rifle?

They are just bullets, and not projectiles from a 20MM.

I read Marine Sniper: 93 Confirmed Kills (Highly recommended FYI) years ago. I did not know that.

This is why I always practice the head shot. 12 gauge slug or a 50 AE or the sweet lil 458 will make a quick end to anyone's bad ideas.

Apart from a good central nervous system shot, there are no guarantees, .50 Beowulf or not, 12 ga slug or not, etc.

That is why we should call carry 12ga chain guns for personal protection. Ammo is easy to find and 43 rounds of 12ga slugs into a bad guy in under 1 second increases the odds that he will reconsider and stop his attack.

Assuming there is anything left of the bad guys head to think it through and stop the attack.

Although, admittedly, over penetration issues could complicate matters greatly.

And it could be difficult to find a tacticool drop leg holster for a 12ga chain gun.

For a 12ga you could go with a .50 sabot slug or some of those hexolit 32s. Gots me a .458 upper coming, too.

I think the kidnapper had a deadman switch.

So you really need a round with enough ass to knock him into an alternate reality.

But I don't want to disencourage a rifle purchase.

You can't go wrong with a big bore AR. Ever since I pulled the trigger on my first round of .458 SOCOM, I can't recommend it enough for putting large, heavy bullets on target. When I shoot it, it definitely gets everyone's attention and draws a crowd at the range.
