Lately we've been doing some cooking on cast iron pans. Last Friday night we made steaks on a lodge logic grill pan (type with the ridges) on the stove and was some of the finest steaks we've ever had. Cast Iron only for us from here on out.

Try it over a fire and you may never go back to the stove. I don't mean on the grill over some charcoal but over a honest to goodness campfire.

I recommend this book for learning how to use and care for a dutch oven. It has several really good recipes and instructional guides that are easy to under stand.

Finally got my wife convinced, she is now buying $10/week of extra stuff like canned goods, water, etc. I'm happy with that, baby steps.

Cast iron makes EVERYTHING smell & taste better - no matter what fuel one uses.
I'm getting older and have trouble lifting my cast iron now, but won't use anything else.

Didn't mean to hijack a good thread into a Cast Iron cooking thread, but I did just buy a Lodge Logic bread loaf pan as prep.

Last night my wife and I got out and dusted the exercise equipment off. We rearranged the furniture and got the basement setup to be "workout friendly". After all of that, we exercised for the first time in forever. I'm very happy to report that I am sore all over today and it was well over due.

I have some cast iron stuff but need more. I don't want any Chicom junk though.
We have a steady flow (trickle) of canned and dry goods coming in.
Any day now should receive spare parts for pitcher pumps, and this week will buy extra points, pipe, couplings, and some drive caps for shallow wells.
And I'm looking for good wood stove. That means not Chicom of course.

03A3, are you looking for form or function in a wood stove? If the latter, there is practically nothing out there that works better than a 55gal drum. I've tried about everything avail and ALWAYS come back to the good old barrel stove. Also there are so many ways to customize both function and appearance it will make your head spin. Cheapest option avail too.

Beginning the process of becoming a homeowner, rather than a renter. It's more secure in the long run. Less of a possibility of getting kicked out in a SHTF situation. Plus, having better storage conditions and possibilities. Greater defense due to living out in the country versus living in town. However, it is more isolated.

Going through home listings now, and trying not to spend too much money.

Got some early spring veggies starteding in the sun room. Bought a SKS for 50 bucks while at the diner eating the other. Guy said the firing pin was broke so it was junk. Brought it home spent about three hours cleaning it up, not it runs flawless. Thinking about turning one wall of my kitchen in to a hydroponics system. Taking on some side work with a blacksmith for some extra preppin cash, and learn a new skill set.

Done 2 - 12 Mile Rucks this weekend with an overnight camp. Yup I can still do it...

I was told that I needed an AAR on this event...

    AAR
    3 Ups...
    1. I can still ruck 12 miles in a respectable time, just a tick under 2 hours with 30 pounds of kit.
    2. My Kit still works as well as the day I started with it...
    3. Mother Nature was nice to me this weekend...

    3 Downs...
    1. I really need to shoot the Cook, the food was less than satisfactory...
    2. Aspirin does not work as good as it used to...
    3. Ibuprofen is worthless to me right now...

    Summery
At 40 years Old I am to old for this crap..

This concludes the AAR of this event...

Happy now Icarry2, there's your AAR...

Bought the LC 9 Ruger . Had a gift card so I went to Cabela's. Took a month to find
spare mags[CDNN]. It shoots very well but needed breaking in...and it doesn't like my reloads...I'll have to work on that. It is suprisingly accurate for such a small gun.
