I would put my "vote" in for whatever gun you woldnt mind being stolen from you. Everyone else will have a different opinion but I have had two vehicles broken into and my handguns stolen. The first time is an "oops" the second time I felt so stupid...

my gun does not stay in my car at night or any other time, unless i am at work

If your leaving it in your car while at work wouldn't it be your normal carry gun? I take it your work place has a "no guns rule" or you would not be leaving it in the car. Everyday many of us make a choice between carrying and our jobs. I've had to leave my Glock 19 and my Kel-Tec PF 9 in the car while at work. Once the work day is over they go back were they started the day. Other than normal cleaning I've never had an issue.

same here, my only consern was setting in the extreem cold or heat all day.

I keep my Taurus .357 magnum snub nose revolver stainless in my glove box year round. I probably shoot it about once every 3 months and give it a good cleaning after shooting have yet to have any problems or signs of wear from moving around in there during driving so I would say you would have good luck with something like this

I use a Ruger .357 SP101 2 1/4 for this. It has a CT laser, too. I've tested the laser down to 8F and it still works. (Don't get a green one for this, obviously.)

My gun sits in my locked car only at work. When I return to my car it goes back on my hip where it belongs. It is usually my G19. It used to be my 6" 686 before I aquired my G19.
