I think first, a .22LR, then a nice HD pump shotty.

Anyone know of any great deals? I've been watching the firearms forums, and just checked Bud's. Their 10/22 is about $250. Seems a little high

That's the 16.5" bbl version, the regular 18.5" is $205 . I'd go with the 10/22, couple mags, an inexpensive optic of your choice, and a bulkpack of ammo. It'll take you a little over the $300 mark.

Alternatively, Remingon 870 Express Combo, for less than $400. I own one, love it, wouldn't trade it for nothin'. You can add a mag extension for cheap, or stick with the stock tube. You've got a trap/skeet gun & HD gun all in one case.

If you do go the shotgun route try to shoot as many as you can get your hands on. Fit is very important on a shotgun; I sold a Mossberg 500 and a Browning BPS because neither one shot well for ME due to fit.

I would also look at a Marlin Model 60 with your choice of optic for a .22lr. They can be found for less than a 10/22, and i personally like the feel of them better.

OI picked my Model 60 up from a Pawn Shop for $70, and it was in great condition. It's a real good choice :yesway:

I bought a 925R Marlin package last year, and paid $214. Or how about a Remington 597. Yes the 10/22 has a lot of aftermarket parts, if you are into that. Another sugestion would be a Marlin model 60. I also highly reccomend a Savage. If you want a pistol I reccomend a Buckmark.

Dicks has the savage*64bxp and mkii (no accu trigger) for $160 and the ruger 10/22 for $200... Reasonable prices? The savages have no iron sights.

Can't go wrong with either, bolts are usually more accurate but autos do fine on targets, live game and plinking fun(burns up some ammo). Its all about trigger time. No need to focus on after market parts, I have had the 10/22 Target model for over 10 years and still don't use all the potiential of the gun and it has only one modification. I still say 10/22 but the one without the barrel band.

I own a MKII, and absolutely love it. It has a 3x9x40 Bushnell scope, and is accurate as hell at 100 yards.

Well, Dicks had a deal - savage 64 and MarkII with a scope for $170- you can't beat that. These are the wood ones too, no plastic stocks:yesway:

I went for it. After much thought, I went for the Savage 64. I like the Mark II a lot, but I'm willing to sacrifice a little accuracy for 10 semi-auto shots.

Then I headed out to the Eagle Creek Park range today to sight it in, but they were closed :xmad:
