We buy diamond from rural king. My wife was complaining about how much it costs and I pointed out how much she was spending on a bag of thistle seed for birds.

I have a purebreed Golden Retriever and a Golden Retriever/Great White Pyrenees mix and both are fed only Eukanuba. They get no table scraps or people food. They also like ice cubes :)

I wanted to start them all - one black lab (old, grizzled, almost ready for the long nap), one German shepard/rotweiler (6 y/o), one beagle/terrier (3 y/o), and one Heinz 57 (1 y/o) - on BARF {bones and raw food} but just didn't have the time to make it for them, and Sweetie did not seem to care for the idea either.

Ended up feeding them Taste of the Wild. Iams and Eukanuba didn't do right for at least one of the 4, but the TotW is working very well for all the dogs.

Started off feeding Katie Science Diet, but it made her fat and her coat dry and she shed like crazy. Diamond from Rural King wasn't much better. Switched to Iams lean and she had lost weight by the end of the first bag, her coat got all shiny and soft again too. Recently, the wife got some cheap stuff from Marsh--Kibbles n Bits or something and Katie started swelling back up. It's Iams for her from now on.

Started off with Nutro Natural Choice, but my wife could never remember the brand when she went, so she switched our dog to Blue Buffalo. Like others have said, our dog is part of our family, and we don't give her the cheap crap. The better food really does help her out as well.

Royal Canin small dog. It's a bit pricey, but she's only about 16lbs so it lasts me a couple months. When she was a pup, I did a comparison of all the popular puppy foods I could find and Royal Canin came out as my winner. i still have the excel sheet if anyone wants it.
We free feed as she doesn't over-eat; only eats when she's hungry, so we don't portion it out.

Science diet. Our vet seemed impressed that was what they ate at the animal shelter and we've kept it ever since. I buy the humongous 55 lb bag and it lasts forever with my two little 15 lb guys.

My dog has a disease called EPI, it inhibits his ability to process and absorb nutrients in food (especially grains and fiber). Because of this, I have to mix his food with 1 1/2tsp of porcine enzymes then add hot water, and let it sit for about an hour. After this, he's ready to grub. He gets to eat ZERO table scraps, and the only "treat" he receives is a baby carrot once a week or so. Many dogs with this condition are prone to a myriad of health issues, but he is as healthy as an ox and has more energy than I can wear out.
Even without this disease, I highly recommend others look into this food.
