Hey guys. I got this 22 a while back when my grandpa died and since then it has been sitting in my gun safe (under the bed) and I havnt really done anything with it. I was wondering what could you guys tell me about it? It does have pitting all over it, but some of the original finish is still on the stock and it does work correctly so nothing is seized up on it. I doubt it has any value but thought I would see if its worth getting it restored or just keeping as a nice piece to have around. I lack knowledge when it comes to old civilian guns.

That is a fine old win 1890 pump, clean it and use it, Now if it were a WRF 22 then I would look at having it restored not refinished.

I can't see the serial numbers but believe it is before 1905. Not to bad shape for 100 year old rifle I hope to look and function as well at 100.

It has pat. dates on it and one is 1911 , so i believe that would make it manufactured after 1905 , just guessing.
You dought it has vaule -- lol-- go to the 1500 gun show and see what their asking for a old winchester .22 pump - its $$$$
With out knowing the serial number and having my winchester box here in front of me ,i'm sorry i cant beof more help. But you have a great rifle there and like the last poster said ,i would clean it and use it .

I have the next model after that (no hex barrel) and i have been told mine was worth quite a bit and its not as nice as yours. I shoot mine every so often. I guess the real question is what do you want to know about the rifle? Mine belonged to my great grandpa (he bought it new and it was his "farm gun") and i wouldnt sell it for $10,000. Its a family piece that I will hand down to my son when he is old enough.

If you can see patent date in those phtos you have better eye's and monitor than I.

I do lnow it was a John Moses Browning rifle. If i remeber correctly the were case hardened recievers till 1904 so I gave it the 1905 range. If i remember correct now (coffee in me now) it should be made after 1919 in 22 long rifle. Before then they were 22 short or 22 wrf. The came the first war and depression later and they stopped making them in 1932. It is a bit strange to see them in 22 LR. Most of the ones will be 22 short gallery rifles.

I think the win model 62 replaced the 1890.

I would say that even in this condition you might be surprised in what the worth of it is. I would trade you one of those nasty ak's for it if you like the newer army guns over the older civilian ones.

Here are more pictures. split the gun so you could see the insides. It needs oiled but other than that works like a charm. Im a bit nervous to put any rounds in it though just because I dont know the history of it. My grandpa had it but he was not at ALL a gun person so it sat in the closet for who knows how many years.

mine loves the Federal Champion bulk stuff. Give it a good cleaning and light oil and you are good to go. I wouldnt be afraid to shoot it. Just give it a good once over and your should be fine.

Ok i was off but a year it was made in 1906 by the serial number. They longer butstock is why i thought it was older. It is also a takedown fifle not a solid body.

    Winchester Dates of Manufacture

I need to look into the 22 LR part. I had heard they were after 1919. Maybe I am getting old and forgetting stuff I once knew. No high or hyper velocity ammo. If it has a good bore then you have a keeper.

Well I just cleaned out the innerds the best I could with what Ive got, took it out and it did fire! put 5 rounds of 22 thunderbolt through it. Gotta say Im a little suprised! Just need to oil it very badly. Called my dad and he said he remembers grandpa shooting gophers with a 22 about 40 years ago but couldnt remember if this was the one he used or not. So approx last time it was shot was 40 years ago.

Great gun. Brings back a lot of memories. It put several hundreds of rounds thru one as a kid. It shot very well and did not care what it ate. Should last a long long time yet.

I've seen them in similar condition for $500 to $600. Cool old guns for sure! I wouldn't restore it or refinish it. I would clean it, oil it, and shoot it, and I would never sell it.

I'm still a lil confused by the pat. dates on the barrel -lol MAY -30 1911. But you are close 1906 to 1907 by the serial number ,i also thought the 22LR was after 1919 .
