I have an older Colt Detective Spl. that needs polished up. What can I safely use without harming the finish. When I did a Google search seems like one guy says Fitz is ok then others say no. Others say use lemon juice and others say don't ever use. What have you guys used and how did it work?

I use Flitz on my stainless guns with no ill effects. To me it's a lot of work but it get's the gunk off and makes it look pretty again.

Old t-shirts or any soft 100% cotton is best. You will laugh, but I like to use old cotton athletic socks pulled over one hand like a mitten.

I use a similar polish on my Stainless guns. I have found the larger all cotton bore cleaning patches make a great little buffing patch for this job. Just throw them away as they get too caked up with polish.

Well used and washed a bunch, flannel baby receiving blankets make for some ideal polishing cloths. Use what you want to apply, then buff with the blanket. Works like a charm. Later, Bob
P.S. the blankets at a yard or garage sale are about a $1.00 each.

I have polished a couple of bad ones with some metal buffing compound from lowes and my buffing wheel on my bench grinder, it worked awsome. Just start out with the soft metal compound then work your way up if that doesn't do the trick.
