OK so here's my dilema. I'm wanting to build a new AR 15. But not in .223/5.56. I have a Model 788 in .223 a 600 in .222 and a savage model 10 predator in .223 so I don't need another. This will be used for killing paper varmits and maybe deer and antelope. So I was thinking a .243wssm from dtec or olimpic arms or a 6mm turbo 40? If I member right both have similar balistics. So what would you go with?

I have a 6mm Turbo. It is a tack driver. Robert Whitley only sells complete uppers though. Of course, you have to be a reloader too...

I bought one ar built by olympic arms. SHot it one day, sold it the next. The fit and finish was substandard and the rifle was unreliable.

I would go with a wildcat round, but Im goofy like that.:D

A year ago I purchased a complete A3 upper in 762x39 from Model 1 at
the 1500. Mounted it to my factory R/R lower with C products mags
and it's great to shoot. Functions flawless and the ammo is easy to
come by and reasonable. The upper was 525.00 out the door.
    Best of both worlds.....AR15 and 30 cal.:ar15:

    If you are going with factory ammo, I would go with the 7.62 x 39. I have ar's in 223, 7.62 x 39, 6mmAR, 9mm, and have had 6.5 Grendel.
The 7.62 is the one that makes the most sense if you don't want 223.
With the new mags from Cproducts, all of the bugs are worked out.

What about the 5.7 upper? Anyone tried that? Cheap ammo, plinking round, and supposedly can be a very light recoiling round for the significant other.

I think the uppers are going for around $750+ so higher than a similar
upper but has the cool feature of carrying 50 rds on board.

The only thing I would be worried about and this may be totally unfounded but
there was talk of trying to ban the 5.7 . Maybe just people talking out their behind but ????

    FYI

    7.62x25. It's an excellent round.

$560 for a complete upper from Prexis. I've ordered one and hopefully I'll get it within 10 weeks.

The best part is the surplus ammo is $130 for 1224 rounds.

    What's the intended use?

It wouldn't be a good choice as a "plinker" but .204 Ruger is a great round in the AR platform. I have one with a 24" heavy varmint barrel. It's a bench/prairie dog gun and is very accurate with the 32 gr Vmax. There are several companies making .204 uppers now.

Same bolt, same magazines as .223.

I am building one in 204 Ruger right now...just waiting for the barrell to arrive (4 weeks into a 6-8 week wait)...I am using a stainless bull barrel for mine...already bought the ammo....the 204 uses the same mag and bolt as the .223...:ar15:

    Good luck:yesway:
