If I had a time machine and could go back in time and attend any musical performance I wanted to, the Band's "Last Waltz" show at Winterland would be number one on my list, without a doubt. With Woodstock coming in a close second.
The first truly loud music I ever heard was Light My Fire by the Doors - coming out the 2nd floor window of the farmhouse next door to my Dad's place. I must have been about 7 years old. Drove my Southern Baptist ironworker Dad crazy, and there was nothing he could do about it. The parents of the two drug-dealing kids playing the loud music didn't give a ****. I enjoyed the hell out of it, even at 7 years old, and have enjoyed it ever since.
This Doors tune seems appropriate right about now. I may watch this movie again tonight, if for no other reason than to test if my sober self enjoys it as much as my Wild Turkey self did.
P.s. A big thank you to any veterans who may run across this thread. I was a little too young for 'Nam - I hope you all came through it OK. I don't know that I would have.
