This article is primarily about a high-end restaurant throwing in the towel, but it has an extensive run down on how business in SF is circling in the toilet.

(Have you ever noticed that the British papers, despite their flaws, always have much better details than US media?)

Hemsley said he believes the city has fallen short when it comes to addressing challenges post-pandemic citing 'fear of parking on the street due to broken windows,' construction and other issues.

    “Other issues.”

    In other news:

This week, the gigantic Macy's has long been a fixture in Union Square since 1947, revealed that 16 percent of its stock was stolen. … shuttering its doors in 2025, alongside 150 other 'unproductive' stores.

Last month, a San Francisco business that had served the community for 35 years closed its doors for the final time after enduring shoplifting on a daily basis alongside a spate of break-ins.

The owners of Bayside Market, situated in the city's South Beach area, said the constant thefts alongside a lack of action by local law enforcement has made the situation 'unbearable' and shutting up shop was the only option.

'Our family business is going down the tubes because the idiots in City Hall can't protect us,' he told the San Francisco

The desolate reality of San Francisco's hollowed outdowntown was laid bare earlier this year by footage showing every store in an entire retail block shuttered and empty.

The prime real estate was once home to outlets including Uniqlo, H&M, Rasputin Records, and Lush, but all have disappeared in a city center plagued by crime, drugs, and homelessness.

Crime in the city actually went down in the first quarter of 2024 with decreases in every major crime category tracked including homicide, rape, aggravated assault, robbery, burglary, arson, larceny-theft and motor vehicle theft.

But part of the reason may be due to the fact fewer people are bothering to report it.

'We don't even call 911 anymore because they don't respond,' Pesusic said…

Cities that have gone down the :toilet2: over the years including San Francisco, Chicago, Gary, NYC, St.Louis, Trenton, Newark, Seattle, Portland, Memphis, Nashville, etc. all have one thing in common: they are all governed by Democraps!
The same fate will befall our country if the two head idiot Democraps take the White House this year!

When it gets cheap enough the chinese will simply buy SF along with much of the west coast. The methods they will use to correct the homeless/crime problem won't be pleasant for those on the receiving end.

Nothing would put a larger smile on my face than the complete collapse of a major city under democrat control. NFG.
The problem is there are enough Dems and RINOs in Congress that they will bailout the large cities just like they did the large auto makers, thus transferring the problem to the rest of us, until the whole country collapses.

That may be what it takes. Treading water and saying, “well that wasn’t as bad as it could have been” isn’t doing us any favors. Slow walking left is not an improvement.
