What is the best place to get the new mandated ID cards that don't have the Social Security number on them? Indy?

I went to the Roudebush Medical Center in Indy, W 10th St. and I walked out with a new card in about 20 mins. and I have also started using the center for medical since my insurance ran out the end of June.

$8 Rx and no cost medical.... tough to beat, I just wish the whole family was eligible.....

Jay: Thanks for taking time to point us in the right direction. As with any large organization, just knowing where to start came be a great help.:yesway:
    Exactly.
I emailed the link to some non-Ingo-members. They thought the compiled list was great. Maybe they'll join, but if not...at least they have a good idea where to look for stuff they need help with.

I am retired army with 7 yrs active and 22 in reserves. I am receiving a pension as a SSG E-6. Last August, 2008 I applied for VA disability. I have diabetes and was in VietNam. I have been summoned to the VA hospital and been tested for 4 hours relative to heart condition and in line of duty shoulder injury, and hearing loss.. I have been told my file is being verified that they have all info and will be sent to rater.
    Questions
How will any compensation affect current pension.
Is compensation tax free? From date of application?
How long does this take? Are Viet Nam veterans at the low end of the totem pole?

How will any compensation affect current pension.

Generally, it will increase. Those that have decreased are in the vast minority

related subject.... if a Veteran is service-connected at 10% for "X" problem, and he is also service-connected at 30% for "Y" problem, those percentages are not always simply added together for a combined total of 40%. There is a rating table they use to compute total percentgage of service connection.

Is compensation tax free? From date of application?

Compensation Benefits are tax free, and are back-dated to the date the claim was filed.

How long does this take? Are Viet Nam veterans at the low end of the totem pole?

There is no "totem pole" and claims are initially viewed as they arrive, then they become subject to :

Most claims are processed within 120 days, but that can vary depending on how quickly medical evidence reaches the regional office, how definitive that evidence is, and how complex the individual's case may be. If there should be an appeal, time frames will lengthen.

If you were in an area of Viet Nam that was sprayed with agent orange, your diabetes is probably going to become service-connected. Have your Veteran's service officer file for it, ASAP.

If I can be of any further assistance, call me.

    I'll be retiring in mid-May 2010

Well after the storm that went through here Tuesday, dug out the chainsaw, mixed up some gas and went to work. Must be getting too old for this kind of stuff now, going down to Bloomington to see what's causing all the pain in the posterior region when making a head call. As I am rated at 10%, which puts me into Category 3, and not having any other health insurance [until the Kenyan forces me into something else] today will tell the tale on just how much care I'm allowed under the system. Gleaned some information from the Net awhile back that says I'm also allowed, being in category 3, for a visual exam and new glasses. Ordered one of those veterans benefits books a few weeks ago, back ordered naturally, that is "supposed" to explain all that stuff in detail. Wife is on me to get a free set of hearing aids [exploding bomb dumps make for a very loud noise], will sign onto the Agent Orange registry while I'm there, along with the new ID card.

Tet of '68 was a blast! Literately !

Tet of 68 was a blast..... you're right.

Category 3 Veterans are elegible for glasses if they are receiving aid and attendance funds, or permanently housebound, or are being compensated for a sevice-connected disability, were POW's, or have been awarded a Purple Heart.

That information is on page 10 of the Federal Benefits for Veterans book, that I'll be happy to send you if you'll PM me your address. I am NOT out of stock, or back-ordered.
