Guys, stop. His wife planned the vacation. His wife. It'll be easier and quicker for him to just change the law. ;)

Well, that's a good point, but it's exactly why we research things ahead of time.

Step 1: read her mind to know where she intends on taking the family.
Step 2: Learn the carry laws of that state.
Step 3: If the laws suck, find a friendlier place that obviously costs more and pretend like you really want to go there.

Yup. If it's already booked, roll with it.

I'm not strong enough to do that.

I get it, I really do...but I'm not missing out on things I really want to do (or keep the wife happy) because I can't carry a pistol. We all know that realistically the drive down there has a higher risk (and before we get into the it's not the odds it's the stakes, the odds are higher and the stakes are the same in a car crash) then walking around a beach community without a handgun for a week. Be it swimming or traveling to Barcelona, there's a lot of things I'm willing to take that tiny risk for in exchange for the experience.

Next year, try FL or one of the friendlier states. This year, go, enjoy yourself, and enjoy the time with your family.

This. Too many places in the world I want to see. Yes, I want to be prepared and would like to have the opportunity to protect myself and wife. Unfortunately that is not always possble so you have to rely on your #1 deterrent: Your SA. eyes and ears open, have a good time and roll. I'm not so blind that I can't enjoy other parts of the world that don't think like us. Besides, I've already been in all 50 states Canada and MExico. Time to branch out.

Update: SC may or may not also stand for Socialist Carolina. All joking aside, the wife booked the vacation. I signed off on It without giving It too much thought. It's less than ideal, but it could be worse. As I understand it, the law allows for you to have a loaded gun in your car and to transport it from car to place you are residing. He'll. If I'm not in the hotel room, I'm in my swim trunks in the water, which wouldn't work out too well with a gun in my pocket. (Fell in the drink accidentally with my Ruger LCP in my pocket once. That little guy got a very thorough servicing afterward) The hotel room has a safe, so that's a bonus. First time with my toddler at the ocean. That's the good stuff.

We go to Disney once a year (just got home Thursday, thanks hurricane Matthew), Disney is a no go for carry. I carry all the way there, lock my gun in the room safe, and enjoy my time there. As others have said, too much to see and do to dismiss it because I can't carry.

Have a safe trip, stay alert, and have fun.
