Bump. Doing more day/overnight trips now that we're officially 'empty nesters'. Some good ideas, just bumping the thread for any new/updated ones.

@Tactically Fat any more info on Cuyahoga National Park and Cleveland area? Is the train ride in the park worth doing, you think?
If you want to explore downtown Lexington, KY on foot, Stay at the Sire hotel.
Great hotel. Its a restored Hospital from the late 1800s. VERY cozy and the showers are AWESOME. Those full body multi shower heads with the giant rainfall shower head.

Just keep your head on a swivel outside. I encountered a beggar and and a possible mugger on my last visit. (the mugger gave up when I made it perfectly clear I knew he was following me to my car and I wasnt going to be blindsided/taken by surprise)

Even with that experience, I have no plans to stop staying there. Oh, and if you enjoy sipping drinks by a fire pit on a porch swing, You'll love it. They even have authentic gaslights.

EDIT: and with no pool, you dont have loud families with kids running up and down the halls. So its super quiet.

No, but you are right. Looks cool

I went ahead and got tickets to a band my wife and I both like, so I'll report back on the cool factor afterward. Debating if I want to stay the night in Lexington and see some other stuff in the area or just drive back that night. Not a big deal for me to be on the road until 2-3am given my normal shift.

I have a few things I would like to do on vacation. Many are music oriented.

Go fishing with Les Claypool from primus.
Ask Billy organ from Smashing pumpkins what "she knows?"
See a show at the new sphere in Las Vegas.
Go to Custer state park and run with the wild things.
    Brice canyon.

Cool factor is there. Easy entry, no wanding or anything. I didn't carry, I'm pretty sure it's illegal to carry in a bar in Kentucky and I planned to have a few beers anyway.

I had a raspberry berliner that the brewery on premise makes, and it was pretty solid. It's a sour beer, but more tart than sour, and a ton of flavor. Had a PBR after, because that's what you have at a hillbilly concert and I like PBR.

My wife and I saw Southern Culture on the Skids, great show, high energy and a good crowd. Mostly an older set, so people were having fun but not looking to be dicks. Venue is standing room inside or tables outside. Parking is limited, we got lucky and there were about 4 spots left. Do *not* park across the road where the no parking signs are. We saw 3 cars towed, and the only thing keeping more from getting hooked was the turn around time for the tow truck.

Didn't check out the arcade or the food.

Not sure if this is the best thread for it, but this looks like a lot of fun for $5 a car load:

2024’s lineup is a combination of classic and new country, country rock and bluegrass.

SCoTS, but I'll take a listen to them as well. If we like the venue, I'm going to snag tickets for Town Mountain as well.

Ended up not being able to see Town Mountain due to being on call for the weekend, but still hope to get back to The Burl, really enjoyed the venue.

I'll put another plug in this thread for the Henry Ford Museum. A lot of historical items there and other very neat things to see.

Pony up the extra cash for the Rouge factory tour. It's well worth it. Very different from the Corvette tour offered in Bowling Green, but since two of my trucks were born there, I couldn't say no.

Does anyone know of dog-friendly places to stay at for a last minute trip (as in no reservations - just taking off and going)? Thinking just a couple of days.

Edit: Should've mentioned that it would be a non-camping trip.
