This is quite the negligent discharge :n00b:

Question for the Navy folks: what do you think is in store for this sailor?

Washington (CNN) -- A crew member aboard a U.S. Navy ship accidentally fired a machine gun into the Polish port city of Gdynia on Wednesday while cleaning the weapon, Navy officials said Friday.
Three rounds were fired from an M240 machine gun into the town but no injuries or damage were reported, officials said.
The gun, aboard the USS Ramage, a Navy destroyer, is used to defend the ship in close combat.
Navy officials said a crew member was cleaning the weapon when it accidentally discharged.
The incident happened as the ship was in port after retuning from an international exercise in the Baltic Sea. It was preparing to leave later that day, the Navy said.
Polish military police boarded the ship to investigate and Navy officials said the crew of the Ramage fully cooperated. No U.S. sailors were taken into custody by Polish authorities, Navy officials said.
There was no immediate word of a U.S. Navy investigation into the incident.

He was just practicing, trying out the trigger, cleaning it, thought the snap caps were in it, thought he looked cool in the mirror...

He will get a write up, maybe miss some shore leave and all will be good. No one was hurt, nothing was damaged and it wasn't an American city (he would have been hung on the spot if it was LA). Accidents happen, thats why there called accidents.

Come on, you guys know it was the pigeons. He just wiped the gun off, been assigned to keep the pigeon poo off, spent two or three hours getting the pigeon poo off, and then a flock flew over AGAIN...

When I first read that headline my thought was about an nd/ad with one of the big guns (5inch or bigger) which would have been a load of excitement, tragic though comic epic fail.

As in most woopsies this could have been much worse. God has a special place in his heart for us fools.

It's actually called negligence. Not accidents.

I foresee a field grade article 15, 45 days restriction, 45 days extra duty, and 6mo 1/2 pay and busted down to e1.That's what would happen in my unit anyway.
