Anyone besides me using the elections as a motivator, excuse, or justification to buy more guns?

I find it very easy to rationalize that I should get as many toys as I can afford before they may become illegal or banned. Using this criteria I bought two things this year. First a new Bushmaster AR15 and second a Gemtech Silencer. Of course I had to buy a host pistol for the silencer so I bought a P22. And then I decided I would need a rifle platform host also, so now I am looking to buy/build a 10/22.

    I love the Election years.

Good thinking. One never knows with things like they are. I just hope the muslim gets defeated. Looking at another black rifle before the end of the year.

Sounds like we are all thinking alike. Get some things bought just in case. I bought 1,000 rounds of 5.56 earlier this year and it ran about .40 per round. I wish now I would have bought 2,000 rounds, I am hearing the price is around .50 per round today.

I picked up 4 more AR15s and dozens of high capacity magazines.

Man I wish I had the money to do that!!! Wife would kill me if I put that on a credit card. But I did get one AR15 and one Glock 19 this year. The rest of the year will be spent on buying hi-cap magazines for both (and maybe an AR stripped lower).

10/22? Clearly you do not have a plan. I made my election plan in 2006.

In 2009 you will be able buy a 10/22. If Glock mags and AR lowers go up 1000% again, you can sell one mag to buy a 10/22 or one lower to buy a dozen. There will be plenty of handguns to buy also.

Buy evil features first, platforms later.

    My top 3:
    Magpul mags
    Glock Mags
    AR lowers

I am guilty of hoarding as well, both smartly and stupidly, and due to a sense of impeding doom. However it is not because of a muslim possibly being president, or a democrat, or even a socialist.

    These are my reasons:

    1. Panic Buying is taking place and everything is going up. The election will be likely unable to reverse the trend, so I get what I can before I cannot any more.
    2. The economy is teetering and soon buying may be very difficult and supply may in fact become MORE difficult (i.e. getting rifles to MC Sports may be increasingly hard).
    3. There is a trend towards increasing government control and intrusion taking place among members of both parties. One party has chosen a battle hardened gun grabber to put in the #2 spot. He is the one I fear far more than Obama.
    4. My dollar may buy a lot less tomorrow. I am hoarding in part out of that fear.
    5. I have an addiction to buying gun stuff and while I cannot stop it, I can admit it.

    Now to the stupid:

    1. Buying a gun because the price was good even though it was not what I was looking for.
    2. Buying a gun that LOOKED F*** AWESOME but that I had never tried before only to find out that I HATED it and then selling it at a loss.
    3. Buying a gun that needed just a bit of work and then not doing it, and again selling it at a loss.
    4. Buying a gun that serves no purpose, sits on a shelf, and then selling it at a loss.
    5. Doing ANY/ALL of the above on credit.

    Now to the smart:

    1. Consolidating to smaller variety of ammo and types of firearms. Of course, trying not to sell at a loss.
    2. Selling off the safe queens and IMMEDIATELY using the $ to pay down debt or buy something more useful like long term food storage.
    3. Remembering that training is as vital as a firearm and getting some $ to get good training. Training cannot be sold at a loss.
    4. Ammo, ammo, ammo.
    5. Being realistic about personal finances and family responsibility.

Obama is not the end all source of impending doom. He is not in my top 5 (not that I will be voting for him).

So, yeah, hoarding, trying to be smart, and trying not to be too gloomy.

Little or no brains went into this post! Don't get me wrong I can't stand Obama. But, I can't stand him for real reasons. Like his position on abortion and the 2nd Amendment. The Muslim comment is completely idiotic and uninformed. Just because the name rhymes with Osama doesn't make him Muslim. This is demogougery and it's BS. It's a tactic used to persuade people through fear not facts. I suggest in the future you take a couple of minutes to fact check before posting.

I apologize to the original poster for going off-topic but I couldn't let this pass.

This weeknd I admit I told my daughter to put an Obama Bin Laden target. She just looked at me.............I am looking back at her like what is wrong with you? I didn't even know I had switched Obama for Osama.

Back on topic. My brother and I revist our weapons buying plan multiple times a year. It is the foundation of a lot of our conversations. It is written, complimented with an inventory spreadhseet. We count weapons, mags, calibers/gauges, we should ad in ammo count.

This has helped reduce numbers of unused guns, number of calibers owned and reduces purchaes that are not thought out, but impulse buys are in the plan. We each know what the orther is in the market for. We only buy things on sale. We accomplish this by having the plan and cash ready for purchases. Credit is ready for the oh **** purchases too, but with a plan and an inventory you really reduce your exposure to oh **** moments. For me, Obama is worth 2 lowers and 30 mags if he goes up 10 to 15 points over McCain.

I have 60 Colt 20 rounders with alloy followers I am going to move BUT I will sell them to people in NY where true preban mags are of value. Each one will net me more than 1 magpul 30 rounder. Maybe a 3 to 4 ratio when I do it?

I have a target number of mags owned for each gun. I add no new platforms right now that require new mags.

We are buying for ours and the next generation.

Building a Tack Driver 10/22 is a plan. I am not looking at making money on these guns when the prices go up. I am looking at building what I want before the prices go higher. I have AR's and ammo stocked up.

Now I am working on building a good 22 rifle and have bought a silencer that I will use with it. I want the rifle so that I can get the most out of my $200 tax stamp for a Gemtech OutbackII.

I am not saying that I won't pick up more AR's if the right offer is presented, and yes I agree that we need to buy up magazines for what ever platform we are shooting.

OK this year.... Ive bought a M&P 9C and an XD-9 Service and 300rds to stash. I also bought my 1st AK47 (Yugo full stock) my 1st SKS (preban CHI-COM) (with no signs of firing till me. Not to mention 3-22lrs each in a different configuration for different purposes. And a 410 for the wife. A 30-30, and various others Ive acquired or carried in the last 6 years. + I have a VZ58 on backorder waiting to be sent to KARL = "KARLSGUNBUNKER" ...... and just order 3 gas masks, 4 AK bayo's and (700rds for 142.50 to my door from aim surplus ) add to the 900rds left from what I bought a couple mts ago Obama might ask why I need so many guns..... I would reply ... for recreation, fun for friends and family. And to uphold an American rite and tradition our fore-fathers fought and died for. And maybe if he spent more time with his family and friends (if any one really likes him at all) Instead of telling lies and brain washing food people. Then maybe he might pick up a cool hobby too.

So heres a small Question... THAT applies here I'm thinking. Been waiting 2 weeks for a VZ58 folder. but they have the fixed stock in stock. with all this drama... should I keep waiting? Or just order the fixed stock and get a used surplus folding stock for 45$

P.S. OBAMA SCARES ME AND I THINK HES THE DEVIL OR AT LEAST REALLY HATES TURTLES.

Newg....You have your opinin, I have mine. I did my homework on the guy but won't waste time with it here. As you get to know me better you will find me to be less of a political correct person, as I feel the majority on this forum are but I am also fair. If my post offended you please accept my apology.

For me the situation on the original post has more to do with backing up the reason for second ammendment than a reason to buy a gun. On the other hand with tongue in cheek, yes it does give me an excuse to put one of those black rifles in my stable.

Mags like the 25 round Butler Creek for 10/22's were outrageous during the first ban, good equity found in those as well. (Maybe you are old enough to know that maybe not? hard to tell someones age on the net!)

Frankly, the potential equity in evil features is better then Wall Street right now. If things stay stable right now, worst case is we own more for the future generations or sell when it does go up in value.

I more worried about the mircrostamping from firing pins coming up...

If Obama gets elected, there are far greater things of concern right now than a high cap mag ban...
