Any idea's why so many guys at the LSO station? Only thing I'm coming up with is one for each squadron with a bird up and they do their own talk downs.

    Hell yeah!

I don't want to judge any other members of the Navy, but does it seem like guys working on the deck of a carrier have the least leeway to **** up than anyone else on the ship? Except maybe the pilot?

Amazing. I've always been intrigued watching these in action. There's a video on YouTube that has one landing on an aircraft carrier at night in super rough seas. Really gives you an appreciation for their skills.

One of the most dangerous places to work.
Jet suction, Jet exhaust, and rotors.

Makes you realize how big the ocean is, when something that is 4.5 acres seems so small...

I've heard they seem real small while landing.

    Rough seas for anyone.
I loved being able to go under the rough seas. Much easier.

On board things go from just another day at work to oh hell in about 1 second or less.

    Life at sea.

Made three overseas deployments on carriers, USS Forrestal, USS John F Kennedy, and the USS Enterprise. There is nothing like flight operations on a carrier. Standing between the catapults while aircraft are being launched and they are at full power. I remember you did not close your mouth when launching the old A-6 intruders because the engines at full power would rattle your teeth. Or feeling the power of an F-14 tomcat in full afterburner. I make it sound exciting and it was but at the same time when deployed with an aviation squadron you work 12 on 12 off everyday while at sea. My last deployment we were deployed 180 days, and spent 12 days in port, the other 168 days underway. I spent a career in the Navy, miss parts of it everyday, and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Best decision I made other than marrying my wife.
