Yes that was me :D and its 6'0 and 175 lbs dont make me skinnier!! Yea they basically led me to my car but i did keep my holster on and my extra mag just so I had some sort of defense...better to throw bullets than nothing at all!

Wait... they took your pistol from you? I thought they just made you leave, escorted you out. That doesn't seem right.

OP, clarification please. Did the mall cop disarm you? I could be wrong, but somehow that doesn't seem legal...or did you voluntarily surrender your handgun?

Well I was carrying my Glock 23 in a blackhawk serpa holster for about 2 hours. After 2 hours I was told by one of the mall cops that I had to take it to my car because it was private property. I told them nothing was posted anywhere about no handguns/weapons. The thing is the only person to complain was the mall security head's wife. :n00b:

From what the OP said, they did not take his gun, they just made him take it to his car. They escorted him to his car to make sure he left it there. The OP voluntarily left his gun at the car, but kept his holster and spare mag.

FWIW, I saw the OP there and he was dressed nicely, not intimidating. Simon malls just have a problem with people carrying. And those rent-a-cops can be a little over-zealous at times. To the OP, I almost came up to you and said something, but you were chatting with your friends over by the food court. Didn't want to interrupt.

Seems somewhat ironic that Paul Blart would make him (or anyone) take a firearm out to their vehicle where vehicles were getting broken into. Yes that is much safer. We won't even jump into the discussion of hypocrisy I mentioned earlier.

I didn't even know Simon malls are like that. I would say some no gun= no money cards are in order but its a mall. You gotta get crap there all the time.

I live near the Anderson/Muncie area and I OC in every Simon mall. I OC in Muncie about twice a week. I also have OCed in Castleton and I have actually had security guards ask me what I was carrying. Is really odd that some up hold the rules really strict and the others could care less. I personally will not go into any building I cannot carry in. Its probably bad to say, but when it comes to my family and my safety, I will not say ok I will put it up. I will first tell them how I feel and also tell them I will put the word out on how they handled the situation. I have noticed that telling them that they are going to get a bad rep with the gun community usually shuts them up. Really one gun will make you not care that you will have to deal with thousands of people not buying your product. I highly doubt that.

I assumed the red text to mean he was disarmed (voluntarily).

I'm surprised that a mall cop would take possession of a hot weapon. I would expect them to escort you to the door.

I'd like to hear that part of the story from the OP.

Greenwood Park Mall, College Mall(Bloomington), Tippecanoe Mall(Lafayette), Muncie Mall, Castleton Square, Glenbrook(Ft. Wayne), and Circle center are all Simon malls FYI and they will all make you do the same. I agree just CC and they will never know.

I've OC'd in College Mall (Bloomington) and Tippecanoe Mall (Lafayette), and one of our other members regularly OCs at Greenwood Park Mall. Guess you're just not as lucky...

I can't imagine spending two hours at the UP Mall! I'd be thanking the MallCops for escorting me out by that time.

Unless of course you're talking about drinking Gumballheads at Bar Louie. But then I probably wouldn't be OC'ing.

Thank you Security Officer ------, let me secure this in my Uncle Mikes nylon IWB holster under my polo shirt, and re enter to the Mall. Don't want any customers upset, and when the shootin really starts, you may be a well uniformed target while you are busy walking out properly licensed firearm owners to observe and protect. Have a nice day.

Sorry to hear about that but I definitely wouldn't go into UP mall unarmed! Are you going to be at the meet up on the 10th at Kodiak?

yeah, I used to live in Mishawaka, and now I live in Lafayette. The Simon Mall down here has a "no weapons" sign posted, but the UP mall, I never recall seeing one. I still carry concealed down here, but it sucks not being able to open carry.

The UP Mall has a sign by the restrooms at the food court that lists a bunch of rules. One of them is "no weapons." Kind of obscure, but it's there.

It's kind of amazing how a baggy t shirt or untucked polo can cover the open handgun just before you walk into the mall.....

Rules of conduct, last line, smaller print than the rest.

My fiance works in the UP Mall, and we are friends with most of the security guards. I got away with OCing in there until last winter when one of them asked me to stop. It's not a big deal, you can use the lightest cover, print like mad, and they some say a thing.

On another note, one of the security guards used to be a zoo keeper.
