I just bought a (used) 12-ga. pump shotgun. It's all black, with nylon (?) stock and forearm, and has an 18" barrel. It takes 3" shells with lead shot only. The only company named on this gun is "UltraCell, Inc." of Ronkonkomo, NY, probably the distributor and not the manufacturer, as it does also say "Made in China." There was no manual with the gun. It is the "home defense" variety of shotgun, which is what I wanted and the price was right. The gun looks new.

Does anybody know anything about these? I haven't fired it yet and would gladly take some advice about its safety before I do!

    Thanks,

    Steve

Does it look similar to an American design? I"ve seen some of the Chinese knock-off's of Ithaca 37's and Remington 870's. Never owned one, but the prices hacve been low enough to be tempting.

Meach--Thanks. After looking it over, I think maybe so. If it is, they say it's a knockoff of the 870 in a "police version."

    I appreciate the help.

Steve - If your gun is bottom load/bottom eject, then it is NOT a Type 97. It is most likely a YL-12, which is based on the Ithaca Model 37. Mag tube cap will be non-removable, and the barrel will turn 90 degrees to lock into place. The "Security" model featured black furniture and a short fixed-choke barrel.

Ultracell was the importer prior to 2005, when Century Arms took over.

From Century's 2006 catalog... is this your gun?

Shooter: Even better. This does look exactly like it. I enhanced and lightened up the photo with Photoshop and now can see that...yep, this is the one. Thanks!

Any idea how I could get an owner's manual?

I'm a novice at this, but I would guess that the 3" chamber means I should expect a lot of unnecessary wear if I shot shorter shells through it?

I have one of these. It is bottom load and bottom eject.
    UNC 37.
Nice little 12ga, I bought mine several years ago from CDNN.
I wouldn't mind having another one.

Hey, I owe you guys all a big thank-you. Thanks to you, I got it identified, got the manual (such as it is) printed out, and even took it outside this afternoon and fired it. I'd say the shotgun is a lot better put together than the manual. It's really not bad at all. I only bought it for home protection and hopefully will not have to fire it again.

    Thanks for the help,

    Steve

Panama: Thanks, I ordered a couple of boxes. Are they about to outlaw 00 Buck or is the run on ammo just clearing the shelves? Or both? Glad to get the Natchez site in my bookmarks, also. Their prices are better than the off-the-shelf price around here, which is a little over $1 a shell. But the shipping seems high. $15 and change for 7 lbs. I guess it balances out.

    Thanks for the info,

    Steve

    Steve,
    Glad to be of assistance!
"I" think it is just the buying frenzy that has everything in short supply.
But my theory is, you can never have too much OO buck around :D
