An off-duty officer carrying (most likely) a Glock .40 tucked in his waistband, WITHOUT A HOLSTER, is a "true accident"????

Maybe the reporter cut him off before finishing the sentence... "a true accident waiting to happen".

Wow, If I were the public I would be pissed. An off duty LEO carrying a firearm. LEO are citizens as well. ESPECIALLY when they take off their badge.

Well this makes me sad. I was actually considering a carieer in law enforment but if you can't drink off duty ( i would never drink on duty) with your gun that makes me sad. Please let that only be in the republic of Illinois.

Exactly. You must have a holster if you are going to carry a firearm that only has trigger safeties.

Actually I would make the case that carrying without a holster is not safe even with a safety. If the round is chambered and the hammer/striker energized the trigger should be controlled / protected by more then just a mechanical safety.

So when the safety renders the trigger incapable of moving what, exactly, else should be doing the controlling/protecting?
