From the Drudge Report, a member of the California Teacher's Association (CTA) which belongs to the larger union, National Education Association (NEA) has sex with a 6th grader.

Have you noticed the amount of crime committed by union teachers against our kids? Never vote for any finding increases for these people until they decertify their unions for at least 3-years.

You make good point. They have not been convicted. I tried to go in and edit the title but am not able to. I'll keep your suggestions in mind for future threads.

Grunt, i normally hold you in a much higher regard. With this post you are sinking to rambone levels. The teacher has been accused, nothing more, you are assuming guilt at this point.

and i would really like an answer to this question..... what in any way shape or form, does the teacher belonging to a union, have ANYTHING to do w/ the alledged misconduct? Lets talk teachers, does them being a union member make them more likely to break the law?

This implies that because a union teacher on the other side of the country has been accused of misconduct that my wife who makes a whopping 19,000 a year after tax's does not deserve any increase in pay?

I heard that a dispatcher was recently arrested for drinking and driving, therefore i think we should cut the pay of all dispatchers

Depends on how grunt wants to spin the title of the thread where i am automatically guilty. Hell lets just get rid of unions all together then people will no longer break the law at all

Unions don't usually abuse children. Individuals do. Can't paint 'em all with the same brush just because you're anti union. Now if this allegation proves true and the union defends him then you can tar at least the union leadership that made that decision.

I went to a teacher's union meeting once. It was full of teachers doing pornos with students, other teachers, and statues of famous generals. Needless to say, I was shocked and appalled. Shocked that I'd missed all this in elementary school, and appalled that I'd forgotten to bring my video camera. PTA meetings are even worse (I hear).

6th graders are certainly more knowledgeable than when I was that age. I find it interesting that there is (well deserved) reservation about assuming this teacher is guilty of this crime, but I don't sense much in the way of doubt that it is even likely/possible an adult teacher would have done it in the first place/at all.

The thread is about the NEA. not firefighters, policemen, air traffic controllers or other unions.

I do not imply that union membership equates to criminal conduct. There is a YouTube video of the president of the NEA stating the goal of their union is the power of the union and not for the kids or words to that effect. He is very specific about this.

All I did was identify that the alleged abuser was a member of a union. All responses here are interesting. It is interesting to note that discussions on alleged union misconduct are not tolerated here, which is all the more reason to have them.

Are unions responsible or partially responsible for tax increases?
