Did you get anything figured out with this?

Nothing definitive. I am going to have to punt and just install the Windows OS directly on the hardware. Then I can use the spare hardware I bought to get the linux system up and running, then see if I can port the now running windows system to a VM.

I just keep running into too many road blocks and I have to get something going ASAP.

Did you follow the guide at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/KVM? If so, where did you have trouble? I referred to the guide extensively when using archLinux, which, although a lot of the implementation was different, used the same underlying principles, libraries, and binaries
