200 lb black bear in Wisconsin

Father & 12 yo son bear hunt.

Son shoots from tree stand, wounds bear.

They wait awhile, go look for bear, send dog ahead.

Dog yelps and runs back past them.

Father steps out of thicket and bear is 6 feet away, attacks.

Father fires 8 shots from pistol, all misses. Bear knocks him down and starts tearing him up.

Son kills bear with rifle.

I am similarly watching for a Gen 5 G20 MOS. I have missed a few listed in the classy's, not having appropriate cashflow at those times. Bidenomics has been a problem on gun purchases...

If this ever comes to be for me, I figure to switch my home/local EDC to the 10mm during gun season, in case a venison oportunity presents itself. Be good to break the gun system and myself in to any differences to the normal G19 EDC also. Holster, mags, dry fire, etc. getting a dab of wringing out while EDC.

There is a difference between killing... and stopping.

On the Safari side, there is the concept of a stopping rifle.. usually held by the guide. Something big enough that it will immediately end a charging threat.

For north american Brown bear, its probably 45-70 in a lever gun. Yeah a lot of things will kill it.. but good 45-70 out of a lever gun will do the job nicely to get said bear to stop doing whatever it was doing.

Exactly if shot placement was correct it wouldn't have happened.
However, the boy learned from his mistake and took time to get a kill shot.
