I'm thinking about taking a trip to the Northeast states to see some historical sites, specifically Springfield Armory and some museums in Hartford that have the old Colt collections. I would appreciate suggestions of anything worth seeing in the area. Here is what I have so far, which gives some idea of the kind of things I like and the general area I am thinking of. No need to include things in Boston, Philly, or NYC.

Museum of Connecticut History –Hartford, CT
    Colt Collection

Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art –Hartford, CT

We enjoyed our trip to Fort Ticonderoga but never got to see the pencil factory.

Consider Niagara Falls if you will be close and have never seen it. Yeah I know the surrounding area is touristy but the falls themselves are simply amazing and if you tour the right places there is a good bit of history.

If you are going to be close to the border and decide to take a detour into Canada have your passport and be familiar with the list of items you cannot take across the border.

I lived in Connecticut and traveled all over New England for work...in short the area is beautiful, but the people are just terrible....that being said, the colt museum is awesome. New haven Ct has an awesome dinosaur museum at Yale. Mystic, Ct have the old seaport, but that is best in the summer. Navy sub base and a couple ship tours is cool. While in New Haven you have to go to Frank Pepe’s pizza!

If your going to Springfield for the armory and you’re a fan of the nba the hall of fame is basically down the road. But FYI, Springfield is not a nice area.

The Mowhawk trail is a drive through the mountains in NW mass, absolutely gorgeous with a ton of photo ops and history along the way, plus bear sightings. For added adventure, try to find the train tunnel, it’s an active line though. North Adams is a cool little town on the drive.

If your hitting Vermont, all I have done there is lake champlain and Burlington, it’s nice area with lots to do, but is on Berkeley levels of libtard...

Upstate NY west of Albany are some pretty cool caves at Howes Caves, middle of nowhere but still a cool stop if your that way. Just west of there is Cooperstown. Baseball fan or not, it’s an awesome thing to see.

mt. Washington and lake of the clouds in New Hampshire is must, and if you’re heading to Maine Acadia nation park is a sight to see.

i know you said no to Boston, but the history in that town is amazing. I absolutely despise big cities and large crowds, but Boston is not like that at all. The Freedom tail walk is so full of American history it’s a must see.

Thanks to all for the suggestions, there are quite a few things that have been added to the itinerary.

I checked on the list of items that you can't take into Canada. What a bizarre list!

Battleship Cove was good suggestion. I've been there multiple times, but not recently.

    Colonial Williamsburg is nice.

    So I Plymouth Massachusetts.
