    Because of You

Because you took up arms against tyranny,
I have the freedom to go out and shoot with my son

Because you went to war against your brothers, cousins, and fellow countrymen,
I have the pleasure of getting to throw a baseball with mine

Because you gave up a warm home for a cold trench,
my house is welcoming to me every night

Because you charged on through the beaches of Normandy, the forest of the Ardennes, and the islands of the Pacific,
I can stroll along the beach and look for seashells

Because you kept watch over the 38th Parallel,
I can keep an eye on my son as he plays with his toys

Because you sat in a foxhole in the jungle,
I can sit in a tree stand in my woods

Because you offered help in places like Grenada, Panama, Kuwait, Somalia, Bosnia, and Kosovo,
I can offer help to the little old lady in the Walmart parking lot

Because you maintained Humvees in Baghdad,
I can work on my truck in the garage

Because you manned a checkpoint in Kandahar,
    there are none in Solsberry

Because of you and your familys' sacrafices,
my family and I can live in peace

We enjoy freedom and take it for granted,
and we have that freedom BECAUSE OF YOU.

I would like to extend a special thank you to all who have served and all who are serving, this country could never be what it is today without brave men and women willing to do the job of preserving it.

That's a great poem. Thanks for sharing it. It showed a really cool comparison between what they did fighting and what their fighting won us the freedom to do. Well done and thanks again for sharing. Pretty cool stuff.
